Redfur grabbed the little kit by the scruff of her neck. "Oh no," she meowed. "You're not getting away that easily."

"But I want to go play with Bluekit!" Regalkit complained.

"Well you're going to get washed up first so hold still." Redfur began grooming the little kit's white fur.

"Well how come Sweetkit doesn't have to get washed?" Regalkit pouted.

"Because Sweetkit has already has had her bath."

Sweetkit nodded proudly; Regalkit stuck out her tongue at her sister.

"Hello?" The medicine cat, Sparrowflight, poked his head in. "Am I interrupting anything?"

"Not at all." Redfur responded politely.

"Then I would like to check up again on your kits, if that's all right."

It had been nearly half a moon since Redfur had taken the kits in, and they seemed to be adjusting well to clan life, with little memory of their real mother.

No, Redfur thought, I'm their real mother now.
She watched quietly as Sparrowflight examined them thoroughly, then let them race out of the den. "They seem to be in perfect health," he mewed, his voice low. "No signs of sickness, and you're feeding them well. I don't see any reason for me to continue checking up on them this often. However..." He hesitated. "How are they getting on with the other kits and young apprentices?"

"Just fine," Redfur frowned. "Why wouldn't they?"

"I'm just a bit worried about them, is all." Sparrowflight sighed. "I know there are some warriors who don't approve of bringing random kittypets into the clan. I'm afraid the younger cats might pick up some of their parent's opinions and bully your kits..."

"No." Redfur replied firmly. "I will take care of them, and they will become the best warriors in the clan, I promise."
