"There is something I believe you would like to see," Concord announced calmly. They had moved to a ledge on top of the eastern mountain where they had a magnificent view.

Cascade and Andrea rushed over.

"What is it?" Cascade followed Concord's gaze but couldn't see what he was looking at.

"You see that line of black things that's going up the mountain?"

Cascade squinted in the bright sunlight and could just make out something moving up the mountainside. "Hmm."

"What is it?" Andrea asked.

"I'm not sure. I just thought you'd like to know."

Just then, they saw one of the black forms fall off the mountain, limbs flailing.

"Eek." Andrea sighed. "That could be Sephtis and his followers, right?"

Concord nodded, having come to the same conclusion. "They're certainly making sure not to make that much noise. And I probably never would have noticed them if I hadn't extended my meditation this morning for an extra twenty minutes. I can feel them moving up the mountain."

"How can you be so calm?!" Andrea started to anxiously jump up and down.

"Well, there's not much we can do about their imminent approach, so there's nothing to be anxious about." Usually I'd be a bit worried about the time when they reach us, being the coward that I am, but today I'm not. I feel more confident.

This calmness thing is going to take some getting used to. Andrea shook her head. But secretly, she was glad that Concord wasn't anxious. If he was anxious as well, it would make her even more anxious, and she might lose control. Andrea took a few deep breaths. "Well, I suppose all we can do is wait."

"Indeed."

Mena coughed as a person above her lost their grip and sent streams of dust flying down upon her.

"Quiet!" Sephtis hissed, being careful to keep his voice a whisper. It didn't make it any less intimidating.

They were hanging off the side of one of the mountains. The mountains were steep and could not simply be hiked. You had to climb them. Multiple people's arms or legs had given out throughout the climb, and when they had been about to fall, Sephtis had quickly smothered and pushed them off the mountain to keep them quiet. Of course, they wouldn't survive the excursion. But Sephtis didn't care for the lives of his followers. As long as they were useful to him, he kept them. But as soon as they became a burden, he "extinguished the threat".

Sephtis, on the other hand, had no trouble staying on the wall. He had recently grown talons, which he could insert into the wall and use as leverage to pull himself up, then proceed to yank his hand out of the wall and insert it once more in a higher place. So even if his feet slipped, he could rapidly regain his footing.
