you've fallen for the prince you have to kill

Trigger warning: murder

I fidget with the dagger strapped to my leg and hidden by my gown. It was under the table, so nobody suspected anything. The prince was, I just have to seduce him, take us to his room, then kill him. It should be easy right? No, it isn't. I had thought of multiple ways of the plan going wrong, I got caught, I was killed by a guard, he somehow survived and turned me in, but the one mistake I didn't think of was fallen for him. Yes, I fell for the prince. It's quite idiotic, I know. And the worst part: I still have to kill him, lest I be beheaded in my own kingdom. But for now, I guess I'd have to let him live. Mindless chatter blocked out my thoughts as I participated as to not seem suspicious.

We now danced in the garden, giving gentle smiles while in each other's arms. I knew my face had a tint of red that had to be hidden, I had to surprise my love for the man so I could assassinate him. I truly didn't want to do this, I didn't want to have to kill him, but I knew I had to.

"Prince Oliver," I whispered,

"Yes?"

"How about we take this upstairs?"

"I'd be glad to."

And so he led the way through the large palace into his spacious room. It had a regal grandeur, though, he was royalty so it made perfect sense. I knew I'd have to use the silver blade soon, I'd make it quick, plunge it through his side, perhaps? That should work.

"Welcome, m'lady," he said.

"Thank you. Now, Oliver?"

"What?" He hummed.

"I truly love you, and I want you to know this."

"I love you too-"

His sentence was cut short as I plunged the dagger into his skin, penetrating. "And I want you to know how sorry I am," I said, tears glistening on my cheeks, seen only because a chandelier's light that he'd never see again. The music from the band played evidently, and we both heard it.

"Monster," he rasped.

"I didn't want to have to do this, but I had to." I watched the life fade out of his eyes, and I was now alone in the room, loosely holding a bloody dagger in defeat. "I love you, Mon Amour."
