And now it's finally time, all the players are ready to go on the court. And there goes the whistle!
_________________________________"The other team looks really short compared to Kitagawa.." a familiar voice says behind me.
"Kiyoko!" I embrace her in a big hug, "Didn't you have manager stuff to do?"
"Well yeah, I di-" the whistle interrupts her.
Yukigoka just failed to receive the ball, a service ace.
"Which team is that?" Kiyoko gets my attention.
"Oh, uh. I think they're Yukigoka. I don't think any of them completely know what they're doing." I was really hoping they'd be somewhat decent, watching them start off like that isn't a good sign. Well for them that is, I'm sure Kitagawa is relieved to be up against an inexperienced team.
"It doesn't seem like they have a real coach." Kiyoko appears kind of sad as she says this.
"Yeah, it sucks. I wish I could help, but it's not like I'd really do anything." What am I saying? Wish I could help, what could I possibly do?
"What are you talking about y/n-Chan?" She looks at me surprised at my words. "You're amazing at volleyball I'm sure you could teac-"
She got interrupted by the whistle again. Kitagawa just scored another point from a service ace. I can tell Yukigoka hasn't been a team very long.
Both people in the back tried going for the ball, but stopped when seeing each other. No one yelled out a signal to say they had it. They just stopped and the ball fell right to the floor. It's so frustrating.
"Like I said, I'm sure you could teach those boys a thing or two!" She looked at me with a small smile.
Kiyoko has always been such a big influence in my life, she's like an older sister to me. I don't have any siblings, that I know of at least, so she's really the closest I have in that department.
"Hmm, I'm not too sure about that Kiyoko-San."
"Well, why not?"
"Well, I've never even played in an actual match."
I look at her with a confused expression. She has a look on her face that shows she's planning something, "And you know I'm not a people person.""Hmm, yeah I guess you're right-" we both jumped from the sound of the whistle.
"It doesn't look so good for Yukigoka." I feel a bit guilty for their team, "Do you think they'll even score a point?" I turn and face Kiyoko.
"Maybe, I can't be quite sure though. At this rate the match will be over in 10 minutes." Yeah.. she's right. Come on orange-head! What happened to the 'I'm gonna wipe the floor with you' part?
I sigh. I know Kitagawa is my school so I should be happy and all, but everyone knows how good our team is and if they just blow out the other team without them having a chance, then how are we supposed to find raw talent?
Whistle blows. Another point for Kitagawa. That kid bumped into the net. Ball hits the floor. The crowd cheers.
Whistle blows. Another point for Kitagawa. Onion head just landed a straight spike over. And the crowd cheers.
It seems like an ongoing trance we all seem to be stuck in.
Again. Whistle blows. Kitagawa scores a point. Out of bounce on Yukigoka's part. The crowd cheers.
In a way it's heart-breaking to watch. I can tell the orange-haired kid probably worked hard to get here. And for the other team to just keep scoring points.
It really lowers your hopes.
