My Best Friend's Cousin

Chapter 4: Plans

****Emma Pov****

I'm not mad that my cousin and my best friend are together. I just feel a little awkward now. I may be exaggerating and it's only been two days, but I don't know how much more I can take of this.

   I still can't process the fact that they're together. Sure my family and his always bothered them together, but it was all a joke. Nothing serious. Now that it's true, it feels a bit odd.

    Part of me is happy, but the other part of me is worried. My cousin is known for being a player. I don't want him hurting my best friend. She's already been through enough heartache.

   Alex Hernandez managed to break her heart. I don't want her heart broken again. I don't think she could go through that all over again. She acts strong, but I know on the inside she wanted to burst into tears.

   Chloe has a very fragile heart. She may seem like she has a cold heart at times, but get to know her and she's the complete opposite. She makes it appear that way so nobody gets close enough to her. No people, no heartache. She seems to always go for the players though. I can't really blame her though, they attract me as well.

   "Um hello, are you there?" a voice said off in the distance. 

I slowly came back from my thoughts.

    "Yeah, sorry I dozed off for a second there Chace." I said looking up at him.

    "How did you know it was me?" he looked at me curiously.

   "Chace, you're my cousin. Of course I knew it was you! Oh and Chace?" I said while fiddling with my bracelets.

    "That makes sense. What's up?" he asked looking directly into my eyes. He had a concerned look on his face because he noticed I was fiddling with my bracelets.

It's a bad habit of mine. I've fiddled with my bracelets as long as I can remember. I usually only do this when I'm nervous or anxious about something/someone.

   "Chace, Can you promise me something? Could you please not break Chloe's heart. I know it's a lot to ask for, but please. She acts tough all the time, but she has a really fragile heart. I don't want you breaking her heart like Alex did. You also don't have the best reputation. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but you're a player and I don't want you hurting my best friend." I said while looking down at my hands.

   "Emma, I love Chloe. I don't think I've ever loved someone as much as I love her. Also, I'm not Alex. I won't do the same thing to her. Yes, I admit. I was a player, but not anymore. I truly love Chloe and I'm not planning on leaving her," he said looking sure of himself.

    "Okay cousin, I believe you. Just please don't break her heart. That's all I'm asking." I said looking directly at him.

   "I won't Emma, I promise" With that he got up, gave me a kiss on the forehead and left the room.

   I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. That went way better than I thought it would. I'm so glad I talked to him about it.

**** Chloe Pov ****

  *Ding*

    "Hey beautiful, are you free today? I really want to see you."

   It was a text from Chace.

    "Of course I'm free. I'm never busy when it comes to spending time with you."

   I texted back. As soon as I put my phone down, I received another text.

   "Okay  beautiful, I'll pick you up at 8. I got a special surprise for you ;) "

    He's honestly the sweetest.

  "Okay! I'll start getting ready. See you soon, I love you!" 

    I texted him.

   "Okay sunshine, I love you too. :) "

   I swear he drives me crazy, in a good way of course.

   ****6:50 p.m.  ****

    I looked at the time as I set my brush down. 6:50! I really have to hurry and get ready. I don't want to keep him waiting because of me.
