Prologue Part2: Sleepy headI present to you another chapter!
Ka-Chaw!The funeral ended as soon as it started, even if for Peter it felt like 20 years. It was exhausting. Looking out the car window he watched intently as tiny rain droplets landed gently on the window one by one. Each of them absorbing every speck of the street lights, creating a sludge of colours. The deafening silence was filled with the calming sounds of the pouring rain and the constant hum of the car engine.
Happy had offered them to take them home since they couldn’t really afford a car. Peter didn’t really mind though; he was used to happy driving him to school or the compound. Sighing he tore his sight from the window and half closing his exhausted eyes. He leaned his head on the cold window and tried to rest for a while, even if he was scared of the demons that awaited him.
Drowsiness washed over him like a wave and his eyes drooped down in exhaustion, he welcomed sleep with open arms. Slipping into the dark abyss of sleep, his mind drifted off to a conversation he had earlier in the day, the moment still fresh in his mind.
-Flashback-
He was sluggishly making his way to the car with Aunt May and Happy when a stern hand gripped his shoulders making him tense up and stop him in his tracks. Turning sharply on his heels to see who it was, his eyes shot wide for the second time that day.
There in front of him was the star-spangled soldier himself, Steve fricking Rogers.
“Oh h-hi Mr Captain America R-rogers sir” stuttered Peter mentally cursing himself once again for stuttering so much. Peter noticed a flash of confusion spark up on the captain’s face, as if he heard his voice before. That look was only painted on his face for a mere second, and instantly went away as fast as it came.
From afar the captain didn’t look fazed at all by the recent events, but seeing him closer you could see the guilt and sadness glazed on his face.
“Sorry if I scared you son……. I just wanted to ask, you’re Peter, right?” asked the captain in a gentle voice, lifting one eyebrow to let his curiosity seep through. What was up avengers wanting to talk to him today? he thought.
“Y-yes Mr. Rogers, in the flesh” answered Peter, his nervousness making his face flush cherry red.
“First of all, you can call me Steve” he chuckled “and second of all, I just wanted to say that, Tony really cared for you” he continued “You know what was the first thing he said when he returned back to Earth? He said ‘I lost the kid’ and from that day on I knew how much you meant to him. Me and Tony weren’t the best of friends after the snap, but before he left to live with Pepper, he mentioned you a few times, even if it hurt him to do so. I’ve never met you until now but the way he spoke about you…. he was proud of you son, remember that” concluded Steve sending him a pained smile and a warm look from his steel blue eyes.
“T-thanks Mr.Ro- I mean Steve”
“No problem son. I guess I’ll see you some other time kid” said the captain as he walked away, leaving peter glued in the spot. Still not processing what just happened.“B-bye sir, I-it was nice talking to you” responded Peter sending Mr. Rogers a real smile, which was returned back by the captain himself. He was still dumbfounded about the fact that he just spoke with one of his all-time idols.
Millions of thoughts where running through his head at that moment. Did Mr. Stark really care THAT much about me? Was he really as proud as Mr. Rogers made it seem? Where some of his thoughts clouding his mind. He’d always thought he was a burden to the billionaire, a nuisance and a mere charity case. He was also amazed by the fact that his mentor talked about him, he was too oblivious to notice that Mr. Stark enjoyed his company that much. But looking back he could vividly remember all the times Mr. Stark had saved and protected him from danger. Maybe he really did care as much as Steve said, he just had a funny way to show it.
Another small sincere smile grew on his face for another time that day as he made his way towards the car.
-End of flashback-
A sudden halt made peter jump in his seat and planting back into reality. The loud rumbling of the car engine died down to a much quieter hum, easing his senses. He lowered his hands, which were ready in a defensive position, as he noticed there wasn’t a threat at all. Shaking his head at his stupidity he sent a reassuring smile to his aunt as she was looking at him with the same studied and worrying look Ms. Romanoff had.
Looking out the window, stood his appartement building standing in all its sad glory. A blanket of darkness was now covering the once blue sky and barely visible stars where sprinkled across the dark void. The moon reflected his apartment building making is shine an eerie colour and the rain had stopped leaving the air heavy and damp.
Waving a goodbye and muttering a small series of thankyous to Happy, he exited the sleek black car and made his way to his apartment with his aunt. He was finally home, but part of him left him that day.
A/N: I’m sorry this chapter turned out a little short since it was basically a filler chapter.
