And that's it! Thank you to everyone who came back to read the sequel, and to everyone who put up with my months-long unexplained hiatus before the last few chapters.
I don't usually put more than a paragraph or two of author's notes at the end of my fics, but I feel like this one deserves a little more. I'm not gonna lie, I had a really hard time coming up with a satisfying ending for this. The whole point of writing a sequel was that the first book was, admittedly, not really Destiel. The premise of them having a "more profound bond" was there (I hope), but it really only ended with them being somewhat-reluctant friends, and I felt like if I was going to tag it as Destiel, it should probably end up being a little more than that.
At the same time, I didn't want it to end with Castiel deciding to just completely ignore the fact that Dean has killed hundreds of people. The point was that he found Dean so interesting and so captivating that he found it too easy to separate him from his crimes when they spoke directly, but that no matter what, Castiel still didn't like him, no matter how much he did like him. It doesn't make sense, and it's not supposed to. It didn't seem fair to the victims to ignore everything Dean's done, and especially after what happened to Anna, I didn't think it was very plausible. As much as I wanted it to end with Dean living his apple pie life, that was never in the cards.
I hope I did it justice, and I hope it was worth the wait. This fic has been weighing on me for a while because I knew it was so close to an ending and I couldn't just leave it unfinished, so here it is. I hope you guys liked it, and thank you so much to everyone who's commented because comments are the best motivators. It's been a wild ride, y'all. Thank you so much for coming along.
