you aren't sure where or when you blacked out, but when you awoke you were somewhere far beyond the walls. your head pounded, felt like it was splitting open and your back hurt so bad it pained you to lay down on it.

you could feel the sun's rays on your face once again, reminding you the morning of your birthday, and you realized that there were tree branches and leaves that provided you very little shade. you looked to where your hands were and noticed that they were tied up.

you opened your mouth to say something but nothing would come out, nothing could come out; if it weren't for the piece of cloth tied around your mouth.

and then it hit you, what really happened prior to waking up.

[approximately 2 hours ago]

a flash of light and eren had transformed out of reiner's grasp, successfully destroying reiner's left hand. the blast itself nearly knocked you over the wall again, but you maintained your balance and tried to run after armin and the others.

you saw that your aunt hanji and friends had gotten caught in the blast and feared that the colossal titan might have done more than enough damage to injure them.

there was no one else that was more important than your family; you trusted eren to fend off the armored titan and there was no point in doing anything more than running away from the situation, the scouts were just not ready to face the armored and colossal titan just yet. your aunt had mentioned that previously to you and you'd agreed with her statement.

you kept running, breathing in the hot steam and burning the insides of your throat and chest. it hurt to breathe but you kept running anyway. you did not know why you felt so panicked in that moment, the new sense of adrenaline made your thinking crisp but rushed.

then realization finally hit you; you were scared for your life. for the first time ever, you were scared of the titans. you didn't act like this with normal, senseless titans. you could not fathom why you were so scared, scared of dying and having to explain to your mother why you were here instead of your father, scared of leaving your father alone, scared of not being able to get milk bread and honey buns with eren.

it's because they are not just titans, they are also humans with human emotions and human sense.

you can't seem to pinpoint why you thought of that while running but you continued to rush on, finally seeing the familiar green cloaks.

"auntie! auntie!" you called out, to which moblit led you to where hanji was with ymir.

"you're okay," she comforted you, "you need to stay and watch over her," she pointed at ymir and left you both alone. you sat down next to her, wanting the battle to end already.

you heard wires being shot out and gas being pushed out, the familiar maneuvering gear being used by several of your comrades. you were snapped out of your thoughts when you saw red arms approaching you and your comrades. you scurried to pick up ymir and her cot, trying to run away and simultaneously find a safe space to use your odm gear. your comrades managed to run out of the way of the colossal titan's hand but it wasn't going for them.

it was going towards you and ymir.

you were picked up along with ymir, the colossal titan's fingertips scorching your back and you were frantic to get off.

"[y/n]!" you heard your aunt say.

you tried to say something back to your aunt, something along the lines of, "i'll be okay," to reassure her, but you were thrown into the colossal titan's mouth before you knew it.
