Nico Di Angelo
The prophecy was really starting to bother me.
I was in a picnic in Central Park with... Let me see: Percy, Annabeth, Clarisse, Chris, Piper, Leo and Calypso. Yes, we had our weapons out because of course some monster was gonna attack us eventually. Where was I? Right, the prophecy. It doesn't make any sense. I mean, African tech? Soul Stone Gauntlet? The dust from the orange stone? What in my dad's name was that supposed to mean? And who the heck was Ice supposed to be? No one in Camp had any kind of ice powers.
"What happened?" Percy asked, shifting his posture, "Is something wrong?"
"No." He raised an eyebrow. "It doesn't matter, it's just that-" I looked away-"it doesn't make any sense."
"What doesn't make any sense?" Piper inquired, putting a little bit of charmspeak in her voice. "Are you having relationship trouble? Is anyone bullying you for your sexual orientation?"
"Because if someone is-" Clarisse picked up her sword-"I would totally beat them up"
"Aww...." Percy cooed with a smile. "Clarisse is warming up to Nico."
"I am not." Clarisse put her sword in a fighting position. "I just like to beat people up. Would you like to experience it first-hand?"
"Do you wanna repeat the bathroom incident?"Percy uncapped Riptide. "Because drenching you in water sounds really fun right now."
"I don't see any water here, Prissy," Clarisse stood up, "so I'll just pummel you to death." Percy stood up. "But don't worry, I'll go easy on you. After all, I'm on a good mood today."
"Ladies, you're both pretty." Leo said, with an intrigued look at me. "And as much and I'd love to see you two fight, Nico here was about to tell us something real interesting."
"True." Clarisse sat down. "I wouldn't like to kill the two time god puppet."
"At least I'm noticed by the gods." Percy sat down. "So, what was bothering you, Nico?"
"The prophecy." They all groaned.
"Another one? Haven't our lives been terrible enough Lacheb*tch?" Annabeth complained to no one in particular. We all looked at Annabeth. "Lachesis is one of the three fates." She explained.
"It's not a Great Prophecy," I provided, looking a them with dead eyes, "it's just the one Rachel gave me after Apollo became a god."
"Oh thank Hestia," Percy exclaimed.
"So, what is the Prophecy?" Chris asked.
"Ghost King, Ice and African tech,
Shall go find the Soul Stone Gauntlet,
In the deepest pit beyond the deceased,
So the dust in the orange stone can be released."
I recited without missing a beat.
"Okay," Annabeth started, "The first three lines obviously talk about you, and whoever Ice and African tech are, going into..." She shuddered. "there for a thing called the Soul Stone Gauntlet that can apparently "release dust contained in an orange stone"." She looked at me. "So what's your question? What doesn't make sense?"
"Well for starters, who is Ice? Who is African tech? What is the Soul Stone Gauntlet? And what in my father's realm does "the dust in the orange stone can be released" mean?" I ranted.
"Well, I don't know, Ice could be a child of Khione, Boreas, a frost giant, Skadi, the eye of Shu, or just a mortal who lives in Artartica. For African tech, it could be a child of an african god of technology or progress, a child of Hepheastus that lives in africa, or just a brilliant african inventor." Annabeth thought out loud. "The Soul Stone Gauntlet is anrtifact that can probably open a ornge stone, perhaps the Soul Stone, which would explain the name." She looked at me. "Is that good enough for you?"
"I-" I looked at her-"I didn't mean it like that. I was just ranting, ok? I-" I looked away- "I'm just frustrated." I stood up. "The voices, the prophecy, they all want me to go there, and I want to go but..." I looked at the lake. "I heve to wait. For Ice, for African tech, for the prophecy to make sense, and I'm just tired of waiting. I'm sorry."
"Hey-" Percy started-"Don't stress it."
"We're with you" Annabeth stated.
"And if that's not enough," Piper added, showing me her phone, "I have a certain Rapuzel's phone" I blushed.
"Guys," Chris said, looking up, "Look up." Really helpful, I know.
I looked up and What the hell? Is that a portal? And what are those... things coming out of it.
"Okay, first, we need to secure our parents." Annabeth planned, standing up. "And check if those... things go to Camp, Nico, you take Clarisse and go. The rest of us will go to our parents."
I started to look for a nearby shadow, but before I could shadow travel, the air shimmered around me and Will's face appeared. Judging from his surroundings, he was in the archery range.
"Nico, I mean guys, you need to return. There is a portal thingy in the sky and some... monsters are coming out of it, we called Hazel and apparently they're having the same problem we have."
Annabeth cursed. "Well then, Percy, your keys." Percy tossed her the keys. "Piper, Leo and Calypso, you're with me. Clarisse, Chris, and Nico, go to Jupiter and help."
I grabbed Clarisse and Chris, stepped into Percy's shadow, appeared in Hazel's shadow and immediately collapsed onto the floor. And then I feel it.
I feet Natalie Solace's soul enter the Underworld. And more. Hundreds more in New York, in Camp HB, in Camp Jupiter.
Clarisse asks me if I'm ok.
Kayla.
I am not.
Gwen.
Hazel collapses besides me.
Nyssa.
Clarisse asks me something.
Tristan McLean.
I can't hear her.
Mary Parker, whoever that was.
I manage to look up.
Blaise.
I look her in the eye.
Sherman Yang.
And I say:
Paul.
"Sally's dead."
