Rylan's POV:
The water below me was splashing up onto the riverside shore. The drop was long, and I knew for sure tonight would be the night I was finally free. Free from him. Free from them. Free from this hell I was living in. No more cutting, no more beatings, no more harsh insults. Some would say I was giving people the satisfaction from their insults, I was giving everyone what they wanted. You know what? They're right! I'm not only giving people what they want but I'm also giving myself what I want. I stepped onto the railing of the bridge and stared down at the water beneath me. As if to add to my mood, it began to rain, but not just a light sprinkle, no. It began to pour. I like the rain, it hides my tears, making it easier for me to cry.
I hear shouting from a distance and look back to see someone running frantically towards me. I waste no time in making my jump. I clenched my eyes shut, preparing myself for the impact. Goodbye New York. Goodbye asshole of a father. Goodbye school mates. Everyone gets what they want in the end. Instead of the harsh impact I was expecting to make, I felt my foot crack then the wind slam my head against metal, causing everything to go fuzzy. Before my eyes shut, the figure of a young man stared down at my dangling body from over the bridge. I could see his mouth moving, but couldn't hear what he was saying. Then, slowly, everything went black. I was getting what I, and everyone else, wanted. I was finally leaving this world.
Niall's POV:
The boys don't trust me with their food anymore even though they know management has put me on a strict diet. I've actually been doing pretty swell lately. I limit myself to 2 bags of crisps and a salad instead of chips at restaurants. At first it was hard, but after a while it became habit. I drink more water and powerade and eat more fruits and vegetables rather then junk food.
Anyways, the lads should trust me right? Wrong! They sent Josh with me to get our groceries. I'm not a child any more!
"Come on Nialler! Stop with the pouting! Is it really so bad to have me accompany you?" I huffed and crossed my arms staring out at the rainy evening. As I leaned my head against the window, about to close my eyes to rest, a figure caught my eye. Was that a... Girl? and was she standing on the... NO!
"OI! STOP THE CAR!" I screeched. The driver slammed on his breaks, causing us to jolt forward a bit from the impact.
"NIALL! What the hell mate?!" Josh exclaimed, but I had no time to reply as I quickly unbuckled and exited the car, racing towards the girl standing on the edge of the railing of the bridge. She was so far, what if I didn't make it in time? I had to stop her!
"OI! Wait! Ms! Don't do it! Your life is worth so much more!" I screamed out hoping she would hear me and stop.
She heard me, and turned to face me, but she didn't stop. Instead she quickly stepped off the ledge, which only made me run faster. As I reached where she jumped, my heart racing and tears streaming my face, I heard a crack then a loud thud. I looked over the side of the bridge to see her foot stuck in the railing a little bit down, far enough from grabbing distance. I gasped
"DON'T WORRY!!! IM GETTING HELP! YOU'LL BE OK!" I screamed down to her and raced back to the car. Josh was already running towards me.
"You can't run off like that Nialler! What if you woulda gotten hit?!" I swear Josh acts more like an older brother at times. I grabbed his wrist and began running back to the girl.
"Josh! Hold me ankles ok?!" I instructed as we reached the spot and I got on my hands and knees.
"Niall! What the fuck are you doing?!" I took a deep breath, immediately pushing my fear of heights to the side as I crawled under the railing. The hard part would be freeing her ankle without letting her plummet into the water, to her death. I dangled myself over the edge to where my thighs to my feet were the only body parts laying on solid ground. First I grabbed her from her waist, hugging her limp and fragile body tight to mine, then with one o my hands I freed her wedged foot out of the tight hiding spot.
"OI! Josh! Pull us up!" I grunted, gripping onto her as tight as I could, careful not to drop her. As I got closer to land I handed the girl to Josh and pulled myself the rest of the way up.
"Ok, Mr. Superman! What do we do now?" Josh asked, timidly holding the girl in his arms. I removed the girl from his arms and cradled her to my body tightly. This was the time I actually noticed her features. Her strawberry blonde hair fell barely past her armpits, freckles decorated her petite face, her body the weight of a feather, a heart shaped birthmark was place on the side of her neck.
Josh's hand waving in my face, broke my concentration "Earth to Niall! Are you going to watch her die mate?!" gosh and I thought Lou was dramatic!
"Josh. She broke 'er ankle and needs stitches in 'er head. Other den that she'll be fine!" I reassured, running her back to the car, Josh following shortly behind.
"Kenny! Local hospital and fast!" I demanded once Josh slammed the door behind him.
Then it hit me... She must have thought this through... Did she take any pills to help with the process or for back up? This situation just got more serious then I thought it would be.
I rushed into the hospital doors, hugging the limp girl in my arms. Doctors zooming past us. Did they not see the girl in my arms with blood oozing from her head?
"Ello! Someone help the girl!" I screamed out. Finally a few nurses removed her from my arms and raced her to the back room. Now all I had to do was wait. I wanted to talk to her. I wanted to know why she did this. What made her give up. I wanted to help this stranger. Maybe I could fix her. I would do whatever I had to to save her not only from this experience, but from whatever caused her to think about doing this.
*buzz* *buzz* what the hell? Oh yea, my phone. I pulled it out. Liam texted me. Of course! Daddy direction had to check up on me!
"I expect to see all those packages closed by the time you get back, NiNi"
Out of a nervous habit I bit my lip and decided to call him. It seemed better to explain the situation over a phone call then texting. Plus I knew he would call anyways. Reluctantly, I dialed his number and held the phone to my ear. After a couple rings there was an answer
"Almost done Nialler? I better not hear chomping!"
I gulped "LiLi... Change of plans... Meet me at the hospital? I'm--" before I could finish he cut me off, worry filling his voice
"Hospital?! What are you doing at the hospital?! Nialler! Are you ok? Where's Josh?!" now I could hear the lads in the background asking questions too.
"Liam! We're fine! I'll explain when you get here ok?" there was a short silence before he replied
"You better have a damn good reason for being there!" then the line went dead. Lovely. How was I supposed to explain this to Liam? I didn't even know the girls name! For now I had to come up with a decent story to tell Liam before he got here.
Josh walked through the doors and sat beside me
"Is she ok mate?" he asked softly, I guess testing the waters in way. To see if the subject was ok to talk about. I sighed and shrugged
"I don't know mate... I really don't know... Liam and the other lads are on their way though." I explained as I stared at the door that the nurses brought her in. I didn't hear a reply from him so I assumed he nodded. She couldn't be too bad right? It was just a broken ankle and a busted head. So a cast and a few staples should fix her up right? All I can do now is hope and wonder. What could be so bad in her life that she didn't feel the need to live anymore?
