Lorelei stared at her phone blankly. She looked at Christine's contact picture. It's a selfie of Lorelei, Christine, and Irene smiling and holding ice cream cones at the beach. She hardly even registered the hot tears streaming down her cheeks until she couldn't even see the picture anymore.
How did her life reach this point? What did she do to deserve being left like this? First it was Irene, then Cassandra, and now... Christine? Her own best friend wanted her to leave her alone? She... She didn't even know how she felt anymore.
She was shaking. She couldn't breathe. Her entire life was collapsing around her and there was nothing she could do about it. What... what's left for her? She didn't want to be alone alone anymore, she couldn't handle being alone. Maybe she'd be better off dead.
With unsteady legs, she moved off of her bed. And like on autopilot, she found her jacket and threw it on, leaving the house without bothering to find her shoes or to even closing the door behind her. She felt a weight in her pocket and she remembers Onyx's knife. She stopped in her tracks, looking over it's sleek black handle.
She concluded she wouldn't need this. Not where she's headed, anyway. Wordlessly, she left it on Onyx's porch and walked away.
She walked and walked ignoring the pain in her bare feet. Passing by the park, the coffee shop, the animal shelter, the bar. She didn't even spare a glance to the church. It's not like there's gonna be anyone over there, anyway.
She didn't slow her pace until heard the sound of water. The sun is setting at this point and she could see the moon slowly rising over the bay. It was beautiful.
The soft sand was a welcome contrast to the unforgiving sidewalk. The cool ocean breeze rustled Lorelei's hair like a soothing caress. Something she wished for so dearly from the woman who brought her to this same ocean.
But that wasn't happening.
