She comes to with a searing pain in her throat, her head throbbing as she stumbles backwards until she falls.
The face staring down at her is evil. The light surrounding them hides their features, wth white light only shining through their eyes and mouth. Their lips are curled into a face-splitting grin, and they start to laugh.
"I found youu," they laugh in a sing-song voice. "I finally found you."
Eden coughs, trying to say something-- anything, but the pain in her throat is so unbearable she can't. Her muscles feel weak, but she uses all of her strength to reel her arm back and hit the person in the face.
They grab her arm before it connects, digging long, sharp nails into her skin. "Silly little girl," the voice says. "You shouldn't have done that."
The mouth of the shadow opens wider than her head, and they lunge.
Eden shot up in her bed like a bullet, sweat pouring off of her forehead like a stream. Upon seeing the unfamiliar room, she started to panic more until she remembered where she was.
The throbbing in her head was incessant. It felt like she had woken up and got her head run over by a bus. Paired with the pounding of her heart in her ears, her head felt like it was on fire.
Her heart continued to pound in her chest, the details of her dream already slipping through the cracks in her memory. What the hell was that? she thought. She pulled her knees to her chest, tucking her head between them and trying to regulate her breathing.
It was just a dream, she reminded herself. You're okay. The boys wouldn't let anyone in here.
She wasn't sure how much time had passed since she had fallen asleep. Judging by the darkened sky outside, morning still had yet to grace the horizon. She contemplated trying to go back to sleep to spare her sleeping schedule, but the anxiety of it all was far too much.
Hoseok said one of them would be up, right? Was it too late?
Eden swung her legs off the bed and stood up, cracking her knees after having them bent for so long. She padded over blindly to where she thought the door was. The room was so dark she could barely see. She found the doorknob, pulling open the door slowly so it wouldn't make noise.
The hallway outside her room was dim, the only source of light coming from the kitchen area. Across the hall, she could see Taehyung's silver hair glitter in the moonlight. He was tucked under his covers securely, his body doing a slow rise and fall as he breathed. She slipped out of the doorway and walked carefully toward the kitchen, trying not to disturb anyone.
Rounding the corner by the staircase, Eden peeked into the kitchen and saw a head of black hair leaning over to look around in the cabinets under the sink.
"Go back to sleep, Hobi," the voice called. "He's not back yet."
"Oh, um.."
Jin stood up to his full height, his eyes wide in surprise. "Oh! Eden, it's you. I thought you were Hoseok."
Eden shook her head with a small smile. Jin returned it, holding up a teacup he pulled from the cupboard. "We never got to have our tea earlier," he mused. "Care to join me?"
"Sure."
His eyes lit up, and he reached for another cup. "You can sit, I'll put the water on."
Eden slid into one of the chairs Jin pulled up to the counter. Cold air was seeping through a crack in the back door, and she folded her arms across her chest for warmth. Jin hummed to himself as he waited for the water to boil, his fingers tapping patterns on the counter in front of him.
