Being Ushijima Wakatoshi's little sister has given you quite a reputation. You're pretty well known but only because your brothers popularity. Everyone knows not to mess with you unless they want to face Ushijima's cold stare and direct words. It cracks you up because Ushi is not like everyone thinks, he's a HUGE softie but doesn't know how to express himself. His best friend on the other hand is pretty much the exact opposite. Tendou Satori, miracle boy, guess monster...he's known by many names but to our family he's just Ten or Tori. You've known him since Ushi and Ten started playing volleyball a couple years back.
The first time you met Tendou it was at Ushi's first volleyball game back in his first year. Tendou had just made it into Shiratorizawa because he convinced the coach that his guess blocking would score points. He was also tall, which further helped the coach allow him to play with them. Ten had said jokingly that people simply didn't like him but you could see the pain in his eyes when he talked about it. He was bullied and made fun of all of his life and he was finally accepted for his skill and not his looks or personality. Little did any of us know at the time that there was so much more behind that.
Their first game was against Aoba Josai, with none other than Toru Oikawa himself. He and Ushi had a lot in common; the ability to push themselves to be the best player they could be. When they first met at a training camp, Ushijima immediately recognized his determination and tried to get him to go to Shiratorizawa. A powerful ace and a clever, talented setter...they would have been unstoppable. Oikawa turned him down, but Ushi is stubborn, he reminds Oikawa almost every time they cross paths, to show him all the opportunities to go to nationals or even just winning matches. They all hadn't reached their full potential that first year but everyone could see it. Shiratorizawa easily took wins, their powerful ace, guessing machine, smart setters, and they were all tall....a perfect team in the coaches eyes.
You had made it tradition to bring the boys protein bars after every game, it was the least you could do since you showed up to every one. The first couple times were awkward and you were intimidated by these tall giants but they were all sweethearts. After their match you had descended the bleachers and walked towards the boys on the court. Some were lying down, some were sitting on the bench, and others were stretching to avoid cramps. But one person was missing and you couldn't pick out who just yet. Ushijima was talking to the third years at the time and you gave them all their protein bars.
"I feel like I'm missing someone but my brain is blank...", y/n said.
The boys all looked at you and then looked around.
Semi spoke up first, "Ohhhh, Tendou said he was going to tape up his hands in the locker room. I asked if he wanted help but he ignored me...it seemed like he was really in pain."
Concern overtook you. You loved these boys and if they were ever hurt it was your duty to make sure they were all okay. "I'll go check on him, maybe he needs someone who doesn't smell like feet", you stuck your tongue out at the boys and they laughed. As you walked over to the locker room, you felt your chest tighten. Hopefully he just got a sore finger and we can just wrap it up like we usually do. You pushed the door open and walked in.
You heard sniffling and turned the corner of lockers and saw him.
Tendou was sitting there with his shirt off, bruises and small circular burns on his back. Are those cigarette burns? Your mouth fell to the floor and you tried to speak but all that came from your mouth was broken words.
"T-te-ten-do-ou, w-h-ha-t.....I-..."
He turned around so fast you almost didn't see it. He snatched his jersey off the bench next to him and slid it over his slender body, hiding the marks on his pale skin. His face was puffy and his eyes were red, clearly from crying. You felt your heart drop. He stared at you and you stared back, on the verge of tears you broke the silence and finally spoke.
