Family Lodge

It was the day before thanksgiving and we were on our way to the Hobs family ski Lodge. Charles is on his tablet and making phone calls the whole plane ride. This isn't new though. His work is his life and I have come accustomed to his attention always being elsewhere.

It does get lonely sometimes though. Emily being there with me has helped a lot. She was right that we would spend all our time together. I don't know if I could done that with a stranger and be comfortable. Her job requires her to do almost everything for me.

Charles puts everything down and looks out the window. "We are here, isn't it beautiful."

He is right but I cannot focus on beauty because the next thought that comes to mind is that means we are landing soon. Flying doesn't bother me much but taking off and landing do. I have dreams of crashing and it has always been a fear of mine.

Charles knows this and he grabs my hand. "Don't worry everything is going to be fine my love." I smiled and buried my face into his chest, bracing myself.

He is so kind and means well but his words don't mean much to me during the turbulence. I was still frightened to death.

Landing seemed to take forever. I thought we would never touch ground. I was froze in time with fear. When we made it safely to the ground, I sighed in relief.

I had never been skiing but thankfully we weren't here for that. It was another of their family traditions to spend thanksgiving here.

We came the day before because apparently the men get up really early to hunt, while the women prepare the meal. I rolled my eyes when I heard that.

"Why can't the women hunt? And why cant the men cook?" I asked when I heard that. Everyone looked at me in shock when I said it, so I didn't bring it up again.

The ride over was just like the plane ride. Me left to my thoughts and Charles to his work. At least the scenery was pleasant. I could finally admire the beauty of this winter wonderland now that I was on the ground.

The town we came through was a small town. It was remote, surrounded by mountains of snow for miles. The only other thing we passed besides trees and snow on our way to the Cabin, was the ski resort. It was large and grand unlike the little town we passed. You could tell this town was probably known only for its ski resort. And this is where all the town's money comes from.

I quite liked the little, village town though. Made me feel warm n cozy inside as we drove through. Like I was in the perfect place for the holiday season. It even had a Christmas shop I noticed. I was beginning to understand why they picked this place for thanksgiving.

When we got to the cabin, we didn't even make it into the door all the way and his mom was there to great us. "Finally! Your brother hasn't made it yet but he should be here soon."

I looked around the room as we entered. I didn't see Princess Elizabeth but Master Hobs was sitting on the couch watching tv.

"I told him he could have rode with us last night but he turned the offer down and he was not home when we left." Charles said as he sat down at the kitchen Island to talk to his mother.

I sat down next to him and stayed quiet. We all knew he stayed out last night and this is not unlike him. But he is young and this is normal at his age. His family had such strict ways about them. I couldn't imaging growing up the way they did. My life was completely different. I had no structure, instead, my mom was more like a friend. And I never even met my father.

Then the door opens and in walks Prince Henry. "Speaking of the devil!" Charles says.

His mom doesn't greet him the way she did us though and continues making her tea instead. Acting as if he never even entered the room.
