Chapter 10 (ATR)

Lynnley's POV

"I barely see my family considering they moved to the US a couple years ago. I talk to them on the phone, but we never have been close. I guess I've always been the odd one out. My older brother, Drew, is a very successful lawyer and my older sister, Emery, is a nurse in Africa helping the needy. Me? Well I'm a student and a babysitter part time. I was like the forgotten child growing up, my brother is 7 years older than me and my sister is 5." I said to Louis.

"Love, I'm sure your family loves you!" He said.

"Don't be too sure. I never speak to them unless it's my birthday or Christmas." I said quietly.

"Have you ever tried calling or Skyping them?" He asked.

"Well no." I said.

"Now love, that's just stupid. How can you expect them to make the effort if you don't make the effort either?" He asked.

"I don't know. Maybe because my older siblings used to look out for me when I was younger. But once they left home, we started to talk less frequently and my parents rarely spoke to me." I said.

"Here," Louis said handing me my phone. "Skype them."

"Which one?" I said.

"Whichever one you feel the need to makeup with first." He said. Louis can be really wise and smart if he tries. I know I can come to him for anything. And it's a comforting feeling. Whenever I am around him, I feel safe and secure. Like no one would ever be able to hurt me. I gripped the phone in my hand tightly and walked to the guest room. I dialled the number and clicked "Video Chat"

"Hello?" I got after two rings.

"Mum?" I asked quietly.

"Oh. Hello Lynnley." I heard her say in her American accent.

"I see you sound American now." I said with a light laugh trying to lighten the mood.

"Yes. It's been wonderful. I miss you darling." She said solemnly.

"I miss you as well mum." I said.

"Will you be making it home for the holidays?" She asked.

"Unless this weather clears up, it might be a while. But I promise to come visit as soon as possible." I said.

"Oh. Alright love. How's it been going with your schooling and such?" My mum asked.

"Actually it's been pretty well. I'm excited for next semester!" I said with a big smile.

"What are you up to right now?" My mum asked slowly becoming more and more interested in the conversation.

"Right now," I started. As if Lux heard me she came toddling in and grabbed my leg before I could finish my sentence. "Well hello Lux!" I said scooping her up.

"Lynnley?" My mum said with a confused tone in her voice.

"I'm here. Sorry. Lux just came in." I said tickling her.

"Is that your daughter?" She asked. I was about to respond, but Louis came in to apologise for Lux coming in.

"Lynn, I'm sorry babe. I didn't know she was up. Her Luxy, come here baby." Louis said picking her up and tickling her. She giggled and he laughed. With a smile on my face I turned back to the computer but before I could say anything, Louis put lux down and started tickling me. I was rolling all while my mother was watching with a smile.

"Lou!" I yelled through my laugh. "Stop it!"

"No, not until you say, I love Louis with all my heart and he is the hottest man alive." He said with a smirk.
