The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the warmth curled up against my back. For a split second I though it was her. But reality came crashing down on me when my eyes blinked open. I sighed, somewhat disappointed, and climbed out of bed being careful not to move the sleeping teen. He whimpered slightly then buried himself under the covers so the only thing that could be seen was a tuff of black hair. Hmm more sleep that sounds great. Ugh I need coffee. After a 20 minuet fight with my coffee maker I was able to flop on the couch and stare at a black tv. I ended up zoning out thinking about Billie, work, more coffee, Billie, feet, Billie.... I think I'm going crazy. A loud knock at the door pulled me out of my strange thoughts and lifted me off the couch. Before I even got to the door I knew who was waiting there, and I was right. A short, brown haired, blue eyed man stood outside of my door, a huge shit eating grin plastered over his child like face. Clutched in his hand were two slips of paper.
"Female. Mud. Wrestling. I've got two tickets, don't ask how I got them, and we are going!" He didn't wait for my reply before pushing past me and helping himself to my coffee. No matter what my mood is, the crazy exuberance and wonder that is known as frank Edwin wright (aka tre cool) always brightens my day and makes me smile, even if it's just for a second.
"Tre you have a wife and a kid. Besides I can't, I'm playing nurse/babysitter. Come back later." His face fell slightly and his eyes grew wide.
"No way, you got Stella back? When did you talk to Anna?" Tre is great at making you feel better but he also doesn't know when to shut the fuck up, ultimately making your day even shittier.
"No tre," I sighed. "I haven't talked to Anna and no I don't have Stella. It's someone else. His name is Billie joe. He got... hurt somehow and I'm helping him." I wasn't going to tell tre that the kid was raped because fuck I don't even know if he was. Besides, tre has a big mouth. He nodded glancing around.
"Well where is the little guy? Who's kid is he anyway?" Shit. Moment of truth.
"Well. Uh. He's not really that little. He's... uh.. 19. And I don't know where he came from, but someone hurt him." If his eyes grew any wider I would think they'd fall right out of his head.
"Michele fucking Pritchard, what the fuck is going on through that bleached bottle blond head?! I mean, the fuck, Mike?! If he's hurt you take him to the fucking hospital or the police or, fuck I don't know! You don't fucking keep him! For fucks sake he's a adult!" Why is it that the most irresponsible person I know is being more reasonable that me? I ran my fingers through my hair, unable to look into my friends confused face. There was a soft creaking sound from the other side of the room. I glanced over to see Billie standing there, clutching a thin blanket around his shoulders. He looked confused and scared, a look Ive seen too much of from him. I slowly walked towards him, holding my hands up so I didn't startle him. His wide green eyes flickered between my face over to tre then back to me, unsure of what to do.
"Billie, this is tre. He's a friend of mine." I spoke slowly and quietly, trying to keep him as calm as I could. I gently wrapped my hands around his shoulders and guided him into the kitchen.
"Alright, lets feed you then we need to figure out what to do wi.... Billie why are you limping?" Despite our slow shuffle, he looked as if he was having trouble walking. I looked down at his feet seeing one covered in scrapes and cuts and the other was swollen to almost twice the normal size and turning a violet color. I gasped, quickly scooping him off his feet and setting him down on the couch. Tre was right behind me as I checked his foot and ankle, gently poking at the purple flesh.
"Mike." Tre whispered in my ear. "It's a sprained ankle, I've had six of them. Ill get some ice and towels, you get pillows, lots of them." We parted quickly, me grabbing as many pillows as I could from the bed, and tre rummaging through my freezer for ice. We returned at the same time and got to work as quickly as we could. I was honestly surprised tre was helping me and not just sitting there scolding me for bringing strangers home. I lifted his leg, stuffing two pillows underneath while tre gently wrapped a cool towel around his ankle. I sat back, watching in awe as he took control and bandaged the confused teen.
"That's cold." Billie whispered as the ice pack was applied to his foot. Tre glanced up giving him a small smile.
"It's alright bud, it'll help I promise. I've broken more things than you'd imagine." It was obvious that in the ten minuets Billie knew tre, he trusted the blue eyed man more than he trusted me. In the time since bringing him home, this was the first time I ever saw Billie smile.
