"Kira! Kari! Are you two ready yet?" Our mother yelled from the foot of the stairs at me and my twin. We quickly finished patting down each others wrinkles and skipped down the stairs, arm in arm, like always. We jumped the last two steps, landing gracefully like always, but hey, we were Were-Lions, we were always graceful, and, well, cat-like. Our mom just laughed at us, her light hazel eyes sparkling. We grinned like the crazy fools we were, kissing her cheeks simultaneously then bounding out the door to our babies. The new 2012 Honda Karizma ZMRs, in our favorite colors, an electric blue for me, and a neon pink for Kari. We threw our legs over, pulling on our helmets, which happened to be the color of the other's bike, and twisted the throttle to peel out of our driveway. We giggled at our mom, who was yelling at us from the doorway to be careful and enjoy our first day at our new school. Our senior year was to be spent at a new high school that had just been built on the coast. Thankfully, two of the band directors from our old school had been hired to work there, so we wouldn't have any problems with our favorite subject, band. We pulled onto the highway, ignoring the catcalls and honks from the various guys. I pulled up in front, leading the way to the exit, as Kari tended to forget the right one. We pulled into the main parking lot before most of the other students, and got prime parking spots in front to the twin doors which was the side entrance. A few boys who had been loitering around the entrance noticed our bikes and whistled lowly, following with louder wolf whistles as we got off our bikes and pulled off our helmets, letting our raven hair flow down to our waists. Our lime green pants and bright gold tops contrasted well with our hair, which we knew, and our eyes were the only difference in our looks, as Kari's were a bright green, and mine were a bright blue. We waltzed past the boys, making our way towards the band hall.
Luckily, the directors had already arrived, and we were the first band students to arrive. We walked into the head band directors office, plopping down in the two seats in front of her desk. Ms. Vane, who was 36, which we knew for certain as we had arranged her birthday prank last year, chuckled at us, looking over her glasses to appraise our usual colorful outfits.
"Well, well, well,' she chortled,' I should have known you two would be the first to arrive. The woodwind lockers are straight across the band hall, you can choose which lockers you want." We squealed and shot out of the chairs, racing to choose the best lockers. I won, getting the one closest to the door, letting out a triumphant,'HA!' Kari just laughed and picked the one next to me. We pulled our flutes from our bags and placed them in our new lockers, locking them with the usual master locks. We skipped back to Ms. Vane's office, rushing to tell her our numbers.
"Let me guess,' she sighed,' 1,' she pointed to me,' and 2,' she pointed to Kari. We nodded enthusiastically, and she tossed us her keys, telling us where to find the chairs and stands as we went to set up the usual arrangement. I pulled the chairs out as Kari brought out stands, and we set up the arches as some students began to trickle in. When we finished we looked at the new batch of band nerds, betting through our mind link which instrument they played. Our hands out in front of us, we walked up to a girl who had light blond hair and dark blue eyes, which widened at our sudden arrival. She laughed as she crossed her arms to shake our hands, Kari's left and my right.
"Do you play flute?" We practically shouted at her before turning down our excitement. She nodded shyly, and squeaked as we squeezed her in a hug. "So are we! Which band did you make?!"
"Symphonic,' she whispered, and we pouted, replying that we had made Wind Ensemble. She looked slightly awed, and we laughed, playing down our flute skills. We talked to her for the next ten minutes, before the tutorial bell rang and she went off to her mom's room. "Oh, I almost forgot to ask,' she yelled at the door,' what are your names?"
"I'm Kira,' I shouted back, pointing at my chest. "And I'm Kari,' my twin shouted while pointing at her chest. "And together we are... the Tamesis Twins!' We posed as she laughed at us.
"Well, I'm Anna, and it's nice to meet you both!" She shouted as she left the band hall.
"So I see you wasted no time in making a new friend,' a deep voice said behind us as we were encircled by two big arms and picked up. "Am I to be forgotten so easily?' he joked as we broke down laughing, squirming to get out of our best friend Gabriel's arms. But it was easier said than done, as he was a giant Bear shifter, and we were small for Lion shifters. He also played flute, and the mental picture itself was enough to send anyone into hysterics. He set us down, and we twirled and pounced on him, sending him, and us, crashing to the ground while laughing. Another voice yelled 'DOG PILE!!!' And we were all squished under another Bear shifter and two old friends. When we managed to disentangle ourselves we pulled each other into a group hug, the two Bears, Gabriel and his cousin, Ace, squeezed us in a bone-crushing hug.
The bell rang to alert us that it was time to get to class, and Vance and Diana left to their first class while Gabe, Ace, Kari and I rushed to put our instruments together.
