Adam and I looked back to see a tall man wearing a beige coat and trousers with a hat. He wore a white circular patch with symbolic lines on it the shape of an X but the ends of the lines turn in an L shape on both sides.
"Y-Yes," I replied startled.
"Why aren't you two at your houses?" He questioned.
"W-We were just heading there! We lost track of the time," Adam swiftly explained.
"Alright, now hurry and head home before the sun fully sets," He said with a stern attitude.
We sighed in relief and began walking toward my house.
Once we got to my house we waved goodbye.
"I'll see you tomorrow, at the same spot?" Adam asked.
"Yeah, definitely!" I replied excitedly.
Adam walked away as I turned and opened the door. Once I walked in my mum immediately ran to grab me.
"Here she is! My daughter, she has her ID. Right Lorelei?" My mum questioned, holding me close to her.
I saw two more men, both wearing the same thing as the guy Adam and I saw earlier. They stood with their hands out. My mum gestured me to grab my ID out of my pocket, so I did and handed it to her.
My mum then gave it to the men, I saw them read through it. They asked me my date of birth and I replied honestly, January 12th. They asked my name and I replied Lorelei Becker. They closed my ID and handed it back to my mum.
I was confused, why were there two random men in my house? Why did they need my ID?
"That's all we needed, have a nice night ma'am," One of the men said as he opened our front door and left along with the other man.
"Oh, Lorelei. Don't get on the bad side with those Nazis, stay away from them!" My mum exclaimed.
"Are they searching everyone's house?" I asked.
"I don't know," my mom said.
I looked out the window on our door and saw the men continuing to walk. I didn't know who they were or what they wanted. All I knew was that they were dangerous.
I waved my mom goodnight and headed upstairs to my room. Once I got there I jumped onto my bed and pulled out a drawing book. I had school tomorrow so I couldn't stay up to late. My hand brushed across the pages as I looked back fondly on old memories. I found an empty page and grabbed my pencil. It was a short stub with ridged edges and a half broken tip. I quickly drew dandelions, then my green dress and Adams smile.
I signed my name at the bottom and wrote, Adam and I hung out at the dandelion field again. He was smiling a lot and the sunset was very pretty. I can't wait to see him at school tomorrow!
I still didn't understand what his mum was worried about. Maybe the men who were searching houses? But I didn't reckon they have much to hide.
I put away my my book and pencil and headed to sleep.
