"Where are we going?" Lacey asks Oli, as they walk hand in hand down a familiar road.
"You will see in like 5 seconds." Oli answers. Lacey looks at Oli suspiciously from the corner of her eye. Normally she wouldn't be so suspicious, but for the last week Oli has been behaving strangely. He's been so excited, but nervous and fidgety at the same time and today it only got worse.
"Here we are." Oli announces, breaking Lacey from her deep thoughts.
"True Tide Tattoo? Why are we at my work baby? It's my day off." Lacey's brows knit in confusion. Oli doesn't answer her; he simply kisses her forehead and leads her inside.
"Hey Don, we're here! Are you ready?" Oli calls Lacey's co-worker.
"You came; I thought you may have chickened out." Don smirks
"Ready for what? Chickened out of what? Why am I the only one who doesn't know what's going on?" Lacey frowns.
"Oh come on beautiful. Don't frown, you'll find out soon enough. Just come take a seat in my booth with Oli." Don gestures for them to make their way to his tattooing booth.
"Oh, so I'm not in today to work?" Lacey wonders, taking a seat with Oli sitting on the chair next to her.
"Nope, today you're the client babe." Oli smiles cheekily at her. Oli finds it so funny and cute, watching Lacey so confused and in the dark. Oli tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear and kisses her cheek, while her mouth opens and closes like a fish.
"I'm getting a tattoo? Of what?" Lacey finally speaks, feeling so perplexed.
"We both are, and you will see once Don has done..." Lacey cuts in.
"Wait no! I can't get a tattoo if I don't know what it's going to be. What if I don't like it?" Lacey refuses, panicking.
"Calm down Lace, if you'd let Oli finish speaking, you'd know that I'm going to do the stencil of it first. It's not that big or intricate anyway." Don chuckles "But I'm going to need you to entwine your left hand with Oli's left hand and have your palms facing up." Don instructs.
Oli and Lacey link hands, as Don asked. Lacey keeps looking down to their hands to see what Don is doing, but his hands are in the way. Oli smiles watching his cute girlfriend, and uses his free hand to lift up Lacey's chin so that she is looking at him. Looking into Oli's eyes calms her erratic heartbeat.
"Don is going to draw it in five seconds and then you will see it, so stop stressing love." As he speaks, they both feel the felt tip of a marker go over their skin and a second later Don is finished.
Before Lacey can look down at their hands, Oli quickly moves his hand away. She looks down at her lonely hand to find a squiggle on her finger. She peers at it in confusion.
"I don't understand?" She sighs, deflated.
"But you will when I do this......" Oli links his hand with hers again, and now Lacey can see the squiggle on the inside of her finger connects to the one on Oli's', creating a heart.
"A heart?" Lacey askes still confused but looks up enthusiastically at Oli.
"Lace, I have spent weeks arguing with myself on how I was going to do this. I came up with the most elaborate plans possible, but nothing felt right."
"Do wha-?" Oli interrupts Lacey to continue is speech.
"What I realised is that those elaborate plans wouldn't suit the kind people we are. It took me forever to realise, that what could be better than doing it right here, where we first met and in the way we always do things." Oli fiddled around in his pocket looking for something.
Slowly Oli pulls out a little blue box, and opens it to reveal a diamond engagement ring. The ring has a big clear diamond in the centre and on each side of it; it has a row of little clear diamonds on the White Gold band. Coming out from the centre diamond is a two curved rows of small black diamonds that attach to the band. Lacey's free hand cups over her mouth in surprise. She had no idea this was going to happen.
"Babe, at the APMA's I had a pretty big revelation, that lead me to realise that I can always count on you to be at my side, in the good and the bad. You are always with me in my life's greatest moments, and you are the reason for so many of them. I want to create stories and fulfil dreams with you. I just want to love you the way you deserve to be loved and spoil you as much as I possibly can. For fuck sake I'm sitting here, giving you the soppiest and goofiest speech ever to come out my mouth, but I wouldn't have it any way. And ultimately I want to spend the rest of my life with you, creating more of OUR greatest moments." Lacey smiled as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"And please don't tease me later for being so sickeningly cheesy...." Lacey gave a small giggle, causing Oli's heart rate to spike. He loves the sound so much.
"....But will you, Lacey Taylor Ladd, start our journey to greatness by marring me?" Lacey eyes where now flooding with tears as she take in Oli's words. Oli promptly takes a tissue out his pocket for her. Lacey is crying so much that she can't speak, so to answer him, she crashes her lips into his, wrapping her arms around his neck and basically climbing onto his lap. Oli's hands are placed on her back and then slides down the length of it to wrap around her waist tightly.
"Yes baby, yes of course my adorable, hot and soppy rock star." Lacey finally says, after breaking away from the kiss. Oli jumps up with Lacey wrapping her legs around his waist, as he spins her around the room. He places Lacey back on her seat and kneels in-between her legs and arms secured around her. He leans in and presses his lips to hers, starting off with just pecking her lips till he eases her mouth open to deepen the kiss. However, they are soon interrupted by a small cough from Don.
"The ring is the more conventional way, but since when have we ever been conventional? So if you agree to the tattoo, the little heart can be our way of committing to each other." Oli slides the glistening ring onto her finger.
"I love you baby." Oli mumbles against her lips in a kiss.
"I love you too babe, lots and lots, like Jelly Tots, Polka Dots, and Vodka Shots." Lacey returns.
Oli smiles at his adorable fiancé, running his thumb over her cheek bone.
"Are you ready to do our tattoos Don?" Oli asks without moving his gaze from Lacey.
Don nods his head, and in the next few minutes he is tattooing the fingers of the delighted couple he calls his friends.
