betty: a taylor swift jukebox musical

Author's Note

First, I would like to state that this is a musical script. It may not be as detailed as a regular novel. Any sort of description or stage directions are within () or []. This is how I envision it taking place on stage. This leaves a lot up to the reader's imagination and interpretation. I have done this on purpose as songs are decoded by people in ways they can relate to them. I hope you are able to do this through this story and script and the characters. 

Secondly, the songs used in the script are all in playlists entitled "betty" on Apple Music and Spotify. You may find them under my username (@jillybeansbear). I highly suggest listening to the playlists while reading along with the script to get the full story. If you would like to add these songs as a playlist to other streaming services, I just ask that you credit me as the original creator.

I want to also add that some of the songs have slight lyric changes. These changes are meant to make the lyrics fit the story and characters singing them. 

Finally, I would just like to say I hope you enjoy this story. It started out as a simple playlist on my spotify that I shared with my friends. Then, I had a vivid story surrounding the story living rent free in my head. I would dream of it and see all these characters interacting and figuring life out. These dreams were then written down during my journaling sessions I do for myself to relieve stress. I never thought it would turn into something like this that I would be sharing with those who find this. I hope you love it as much as I have loved dreaming it up and writing it down.

Update: 

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to the album that inspired this entire story. folklore changed my life for the better. It gave me a reason to live for the hope of it all again. It gave me light in a dark place. 

Living with this album for a year and this story for almost a year (as I had been listening and writing for myself since a little after the story came out) had me always thinking of these characters. I would think about Betty, James, and Augustine constantly wondering what journeys they went through before the story began and afterwards when the pencil was put down. So, I revamped the story adding in some new little details with those thoughts involved. I hope you enjoy it! And again, happy 1 year folklore!
