Hollie's POV:

Once I had my luggage, I headed out the doors of the airport and onto the streets of Sydney. Remembering the plan, I pulled my phone out of my rucksack and scrolled down to find the number belonging to Dr Chris Brown. I smiled as I remembered how lucky I was to get this once in a lifetime opportunity.

*Flashback to 8 months ago*

"Hollie, you have to send this email! The deadline is tonight and you won't get another chance like this ever again." My mum half shouts at me, her eyes wide as she saw I hadn't sent the most important email of my life. I had been delaying sending the email to Dr Chris Brown for almost a week now, after seeing an opportunity to apply to become a paid intern at Dr Brown's veterinary practice in Bondi during an advert break on TV whilst watching Bondi Vet.

"I know, I know! But what if he says no?" I ask, once again doubting myself. All applicants had been asked to send in a compilation of videos to show them working in veterinary clinics or other animal environments during work experience placements. I had put together a video of my working both in a small animal practice and shadowing the vet at a local zoo, making sure I had a broad range of footage.

"You'll never know if you don't try" My mum replies, before squeezing my shoulders and going to make a cup of tea. And in a brief moment of confidence, I press send.

After two weeks of constantly checking my emails, I get a reply back from Dr Brown, saying that he had been impressed with the variety of animals I had worked with and that I was just the person he was looking for. I squealed in delight as I read the email before running downstairs to tell my parents the good news.

*End of flashback*

After a few rings, a voice answered the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hi, is that Dr Chris Brown? It's Hollie, here for the paid internship."

"Oh yes, hi there!"

"Hi! You said that I would be able to come to the clinic once to meet everyone about a week before I start."

"Right, yep I did say that. Why don't you pop over now? It's super quiet at the moment."

"Okay, sounds great, see you soon"

"Bye Hollie"

I quickly text my parents to tell them I've arrived and that I was going to be meeting the staff at the clinic before putting my phone away and signalling a taxi.

A while later, the taxi pulls up outside a fairly large building and I walk up the steps as fast as I could while carrying two heavy suitcases and a rucksack. 'I probably should have gone to the university to get settled in before coming here.' I think to myself, but it was too late now.

At the top of the steps stood Chris and a nurse just behind him. He smiled before raising an eyebrow at my luggage, "I hope you don't think your staying here".

"Nope, I've got a dorm room at the university, I was just really keen to check out the clinic!"

He laughed. "Well in that case, follow me." He said before giving me a tour of the practice.

15 minutes later and I had seen everyone and everywhere in the clinic and for the first time in a long time, I felt genuinely happy and prepared for what the future holds. After saying goodbye to all of the vets and nurses, I find a taxi and make my way towards the university, ready to face the next chapter of my life.
