**Louis POV**

I trudged down the hallways in the tiny group of Gryffindor's. All the other lad's in my hear where muggle-born, so they where not allowed back at Hogwarts.

I missed them so deeply and almost had a nervous breakdown when I learned that only select pure-blood students would be returning home for the holidays. My letters where less and less often because patrols of wizarding neighborhoods had been doubled according to talk around the castle, and I couldn't risk a bunch of owls showing up at the secret annex.

I adjusted my bag on my shoulder and saw that the other Gryffindor students had left me. I glimpsed a head of bright red hair and hurried to catch up to Ginny Weasley. She seemed to be looking for somebody.

"Hi Louis. Have you seen Neville or Luna?" She said quietly.

"No, sorry." I sighed. She had friends here. All I ever had was my four brothers, and they where gone.

"Hey, it's okay. It'll get better and they'll come back." She placed a hand on my shoulder knowing what I was thinking about. "Come on. We have to get to the Room of Requirement." I followed her to the seventh floor and she walked in front of the wall three times, causing a black door to appear. We went inside and saw a huge crowd of Hufflepuff, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw students, standing around and talking quietly.  Many of them had bruises and their hair was long and unruly. They where all in bad shape and many looked like they had not been out of this room all weekend. There where hammocks along all the walls and tables set up around the room. House Elves bustled around, handing out bits of food they had smuggled out from the kitchens.

I went and joined some Hufflepuff boys in my year who where playing Exploding Snap and  prepared myself for what could be many months practically living in this room.

**********

For months, I spent almost all my time in that room. Most students did.

By time May rolled around, we where starting to loose hope. Many of us where thin and had marks on our arms and faces. I had a nasty welt curled around my upper arm where one of the Carrows had used a whipping curse on me after I gave the wrong answer in class.

Now, I sat in a corner of the room, watching the masses of people as they milled about. The room was bigger now that more people had come. Many actually stayed the nights here. It was safer than any of the dorms. A few seventh years sat at one of the tables, multiplying slices of stale bread and handing them out. It was all we had to eat, as lunch had been cut out and breakfast and dinner where smaller and rather mouldy. One of the most interesting things that ever happened was "Potterwatch." During those times, we all huddled around, perfectly silent and listening intently.

"And we regret to say that the following people have been killed." We all held out breath, praying that nobody we knew would be on the list this week. "Anne Johnson, Frank Johnson, Alice Johnson, Ben Graff, Nathan Hilshire, Emma Dawson, Josh Dawson, and Liam- " My heart skipped a beat. "-Fredricks."

I sighed internally. I was relieved for half a moment before I regretted it. It may not have been Liam Payne, but Liam Fredricks had a family. He may have had a wife or children. He had parents and friends. He had been murdered and somebody, somewhere, was hurting.

"Let's have a moment of silence for the fallen." It was quiet for a few seconds, just the buzz of the radio echoing through the room. "Thank you for tuning in to Potterwatch. Join us next time where the code is 'Mad-Eye'."

The radio was clicked off and we all went silently to our various places, whispering quietly and comforting those who had lost somebody they knew.

I looked up when I heard a sound. Neville was standing up in the entrance to the secret tunnel. I looked down again, but up a moment later. Harry Potter was standing there next to Neville along with Hermione and Ron.
