Betrayal
For almost hours I paced my room, walking from the window to my bed and back again. My mind kept racing, trying to determine and plan out in my head how this evening was going to go. Mentally I put together my wardrobe choice, I wrote a script of sorts that had everything that I wanted to say and I planned out how the setting would affect things.
I glanced at my clock '7:30' it read. He's going to be here soon. I thought to myself as I scrambled towards my dresser pulling out the articles of clothing that I wanted to wear. Tugging them over my body I sprinted to the mirror. Standing there I tugged at the pieces of fabric until they clung to my body in the way I wanted them to and I ran my finger through my hair until it was almost perfection. Pulling my favorite bottle of perfume off my dresser I spritzed it into the air and slowly let it fall onto me.
Before I knew it I heard his loud beater car pulling into my driveway. I didn't want to come across like I've been waiting and obsessing about this moment all day, so I waited until I heard my name called from downstairs. I closed my eyes and counted to ten and then proceeded to my front door. That is where he stood in all his glory. Brad Hurst. Excitement was brewing inside me as I passed each step. His eyes glided down my body in a hungry way. This made me strangely proud and nervous all at the same time.
"You look amazing Jane." He said with a grin spreading across his face. He simply saying my name sent my heart into a frenzy.
"Thanks." I stammered quietly.
"Ready to go?" he asked while extending his arm for me to grasp.
I nodded and off we went on our evening of excitement.
In his car we made small talk and the radio played quietly in the background. I couldn't help but think to myself; damn I really like this guy. Quickly I shook those thoughts away. He was popular and his intentions were unknown at this point. Deep down inside I felt that he just wanted to get in my pants, but I also felt that he could be different...or at least I just want him to be different.
We pulled up to Carson Lake. It was a beautiful yet small lake that illuminated and reflected the moons rays. He parked his truck and quickly ran around and told me to put a blind fold around my eyes until he was done setting up. I did as I was told and waited patiently. A smile was spread across my face the whole time.
"Okay, are you ready?" he whispered in my ear as he helped me out of his truck.
"Ready if you are." I replied, trying to be cool and act like my heart wasn't literally beating out of my chest.
I felt the crunch of the dirt under my feet as we inched closer to the lake. His hands were placed lightly on my hips as he guided me from behind making my cheeks heat up. Suddenly I regained my sight and before me was a simple picnic blanket, some glasses, and a bottle of wine.
"Well? Do you like it?" he questioned as he moved into my line of vision.
"Like it? I love it! This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me." I gushed.
He held his hand out to me and guided me towards the checkered blanket.
"Glass of wine for the lovely lady?" he asked with a chuckle as he popped the cork off the bottle.
Truth be told I had never had a single drop of alcohol in my life and I had no interest...until now. I didn't want him to think that I was lame or anything. So I nodded in agreement. He poured two glasses and handed one to me. Without thinking I took a huge gulp of the liquid and shortly after the burning sensation kicked in and I coughed loudly.
"Whoa slow down there." He laughed. "Have you ever drank before?" he asked with a grin spread across his face. I think it was no secret that I was inexperienced in many aspects, but he was just being nice.
"No I haven't so this will be a first." I lifted my glass up to toast. Our glasses clinked and we both took a gulp this time.
The drinking continued until there was an empty bottle lying next to us as we were sprawled out across the blanket lips locked. I was so drunk that I didn't know what I was doing. It all happened so fast that I didn't even get the opportunity to tell him that this was my first kiss. And then it advanced until I didn't have the opportunity to tell him that this was my first time having sex or that he should use a condom or to stop because it hurt so badly. That was a quick way to sober me up.
When he was done he buckled his pants, helped me up and guided me back to his truck. On the way home there was no comfortable chit chat or music playing. Just the harsh reality of what had just happened hitting me right in the face. He didn't even walk me to the door. He just gave me a peck and told me he'd see me at school on Monday. That night I went home and bawled my eyes out.
Monday
Throughout the day there was a weird air about the school. As I walked from class to class it seemed that everyone knew and was reflecting their judgments by giving me looks. I knew it was all in my head though and I was just being ridiculous.
The school day ended and as I walked into the locker rooms to get ready for cheer practice the girls all starred at me. I didn't know what was wrong.
"Hey guys! How was your weekend?" I asked to everyone to lighten the hostile air.
"I don't know. How was your weekend Jane? Get a good boning?" The captain Jessica Ulson spat. This was followed by chuckles that echoed throughout the locker room. "Guys stop! This isn't funny. I will not allow one of my team members to go and embarrass all of us." She continued as she crossed her arms over her body.
I looked around the room at all my team member's faces. They all seemed to either think this was really funny or disgusting. Either way it left a sick feeling in my stomach.
"W-what are you talking about?" I asked scratching my arms out of pure nervousness.
"Oh don't play dumb Jane, we all saw the video. Actually the whole school has seen the video."
"What video?" I asked immediately. My stomach was now in my chest and I felt a huge need to vomit.
"Oh! You haven't seen the final product? Feast your eyes Jane."
And just like that my first time was being replayed in front of me on a small phone screen. It was shot from a wide angle, as if the camera was in Brett's car. Tears slowly welled up in my eyes. Laughter was heard all around me and I didn't even know what sensation to focus on. My brain was utterly overwhelmed. I grabbed my stuff and sprinted all the way home. My lungs were burning and my legs felt weak, but I kept going until I got to my front door. Then I collapsed. I pulled my phone out and called the one person I knew would understand.
"Hello?"
"Christina! It's me. Jesus Christ, have you seen it?" I gasped out tears still streaming down my cheeks.
"Yeah, everyone has seen it Jane. What were you thinking?" she asked with a disappointed tone to her soft voice.
"I wasn't thinking. I was totally drunk. Do you think I planned this? He didn't tell me he was making a video out of this. You really think I would do something like that?" I questioned. If Christina wasn't there for me then I didn't know what I would do.
"Jane, I've been questioning our friendship a lot lately, but this is the final straw."
"No, Christina! You have to believe me this wasn't what you think it was."
