Winter
I wait for him at the double tan doors of the school. I can feel my heart skip four beats as he walks toward me. My heartbeat gains speed when he finally decides to look my way.
“Hey Winter”, He calls from down the hallway.
“H-Hey!” I blush. If I wasn’t so pale I’d be able to hide it.
“I’ll see y’all later”, He tells his friends Dre and Robert before they part ways. He walks past me and out the door as if he expects me to follow after him. As if on queue I did. “What’cha want to talk about?”
“I’ll tell you when we get to my house”, I said. “It isn’t that far”. My house really isn’t that far. Just a couple blocks down the street from the school. Takes me about five minutes to get there and back to school. That means we’re gonna spend a whole five minutes together. Alone. I clutch my book bag even tighter as the thoughts of what might happen float around in my mind.
If only these five minutes would be over!

I insert my key into the door before shakily barging my way into the house.
“You can take a seat in the living room”, I tell him. The way the house is set up the living room and the kitchen are connected to each other separated by nothing but a case of stairs that lead up to the bedrooms up there. “You hungry?”
“Nahh, I ate a lot of snacks from the vending machine during fifth period”, He replied.
“Ok”, I stare at the floor my face as red as a tomato doing my best to hide my blush as I take a seat on the couch. He stares at the wall hand holding up his face.
“So, What did you want to tell me Winter?” I turn toward him hoping for the best reaction.
“I actually been wanting to tell you this… for a while now Jerome”. I fiddle with my thumbs before pulling at my jeans that barely come off my body. Like a second skin. “ I um I…”
“Winter, I don’t have all day. I have things I gotta do today”, He said. This boy don’t get that fact that I’m trying to say something that’s hard for me to just put out there.
“Ok… Jerome, I love you”. His face turns to me his eyes showing shock that quickly fades away.
“I should of known”.
“What?”
“I should of known that you loved me. I mean the tearing up. The blushing. The hurt I seen in your eyes when I didn’t pay attention to you. I’m slow as hell”. He smiles at me. “Winter you’re so much like a little puppy”.
“A puppy?” I stare at him weirdly. What the hell?
“I’m sorry but I just don’t feel that way about you”, He apologized.
“What?!” How’d we go from puppies to him not loving me? I rather talk about me being like a puppy.
“I just don’t love you in that way. Winter you’re a good girl. You’re adorable, smart, nice. You can get a good guy. That guy just ain’t me. Sorry”. He stands up and heads toward the door. Now staring at the floor I yell out.
“Where are you going?!”
“Home”.
“Jerome! Please don’t go just wait a little bit! I love you! Don’t just leave me like this!” I run after him before clutching on to his shirt holding tightly.
“Winter, I think it’s best if we just not talk anymore”.
No! No I’m not gonna lose him! Not after he just started talking to me again. Jerome. I’m sorry but I can’t let you abandon me again.
I reach over to the kitchen counter grabbing a frying pan his back still turned.
“Jerome. I’m sorry” I hit the frying pan upside his head making him fall out onto the floor knocked out.
I’m so sorry Jerome!
I really am! I don't wanna be abandoned again.
