Chapter 9

For my dance audition, I had to choose two songs to do. Only one is required to do at the audition. I chose to do a boy group song because that is more my style. Although, they usually want the girls to do a girl group song, I want to change their thinking. Girls can do boy group songs just as well as the boys and vice versa. My boy group song of choice was Last Piece by GOT7. This song only came out 3 years ago, but it already feels like forever since GOT7 has graced the world with their talent. As I was dancing to Last Piece, JYP watches intensely with that scary stare he has when he's focused. I don't want to disappoint him by doing this choreography wrong. That's why, when I decided to try to become a soloist, that this was the company I came to first.

I finish my dance audition and stand there, waiting for JYP's comments on my dance,
"Again, I have nothing but praise for you. You did this choreography very well, but. . . There was a part where you did incorrect. I had to take points off for that. I know you're nervous, but you have to forget those nerves for the audition. You will hear from us again if we want you back for a 2nd audition. Next!" JYP exclaimed.
I walk out of the audition room with my head hanging low. I don't know if that was good or bad. I go back to my apartment to tell Hyunjin how I did. I had recorded the audio on my phone so Hyunjin can listen to what JYP said about me. He nods his head, listening. On top of getting dance lessons, I get additional lessons from Hyunjin. He is one of the best dancers I know in the industry. How could I have messed up? I guess I'll find out if I get a call back next week.

♡A Week Later♡
Suddenly, I get a call from a random number. I answer it, wondering who it could be.
"여보세요?" I asked(Hello?)
"미스 황인가요?" She asked(Is this Mrs. Hwang?)
"어, 네, 부인." I said(Uh, yes ma'am)
"안녕하세요, JYP 엔터테인먼트 출신입니다. 우리는 당신이 두 번째 오디션을 위해 돌아오기를 바랍니다." She said(Hi, I'm from JYP Entertainment. We would like you to come back for a second audition)
"그래요?!" I asked, shocked(Really?!)
"네, 첫 오디션은 정말 좋았어요." She said(Yes, we really liked your first audition)
"네, 곧 가겠어요." I said(Okay, I'll be right there)

I excitedly tell Hyunjin that they called me back for a 2nd audition. He hugs me tight, telling me that I'm going to make it in. I know there is one more audition that I have to do after this 2nd one, so I don't know yet. I head back into JYP Entertainment for my 2nd audition. I wait in line behind those who were called back for a second audition as well. When it's finally my turn, I had to do another English song and Korean song. I spent all week trying to decide what songs to do. Eventually, I chose to do Jeon Somi's What You Waiting For. The English song I chose to do was Revolution - English Version by AleXa. I had sought help from AleXa herself on how I should approach the song. She told me that I just need to give it my all into my performance. That is the best advice she could give me, also just to be myself.

I do my 2nd audition how I did my 1st. This time, I took more time on my dancing because I don't want to mess up this time. I asked Hyunjin for extra help so that I can really nail the choreography. I chose AleXa's Do or Die for my choreography, which is really intense. I had to take so much more time learning this song than I originally thought. Now, I'm at my audition, completely nailing it. I see that JYP can see my improvement from a single week. All his feedback was positive this time.
"Congratulations, you have passed your 2nd audition. All that's left now is your 3rd and final audition." JYP said.
"Thank you so much, sir." I said.
"No, thank you for trying to hard and giving your best." JYP said, "Wait a minute. I think I recognize you."
"I'm a secretary here. I just wanted to try auditioning because I'm interested in a career in music." I said.
"Ahh, that makes so much sense why I recognize you now." JYP said.
"Yes. Well, I'll you next time." I said.
"Have a good day." JYP said.
"Thanks, sir." I said.

By the time my 3rd audition rolled around, I was extra nervous for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe because this is my last shot at getting into the company. I give it my all, my best into this audition. I chose a really fun song for my last auditon: 1+1 by GOT7. I had lots of fun performing that song for JYP. It's definitely a vibe and I love it so much. When I finish my audition, I am told that I made it in. I am officially a JYP trainee. I am so proud of myself. I know Hyunjin will love hearing this news too. I go back to my apartment and tell him.
"Hyunjinnie. Guess what?" I asked.
"What? Did you pass again?" Hyunjin asked.
"Yes!" I exclaimed.
"Wow, 축하해요." Hyunjin said, clapping his hands happily(Congrats)
"Thanks. It couldn't have been done without you." I said.
"Aww, no. You're talented." Hyunjin said.
"Now, I'll have to see where I am a couple years from now." I said.
"Yes." Hyunjin said.
