"I told you, Pa hates me!" Lucky shouted as he lay down in the middle of the Common Room.
Bodhi sighed as he continued crocheting and occassionally taking moves with his game of Pusoy dos with Ava. It was a quiet afternoon, as always, with the sun streaming through the window. They had both finished their deliveries already in the morning.
"Full house." Ava said, placing down her cards, distracting her friend from his crocheting. He looked as his cards and smiled gratefully, placing down a higher house.
"Lucky, I really think you should spend some time with your Papa," Bodhi said as Ava groaned. He sent an apologetic smile to the purple-feathered stork and set down a straight.
"Pa doesn't want to spend time with me. Why should I spend time with him?" Lucky said as he climbed onto the couch where Bodhi was sitting. There was a table beside the black pup with a glass of milk. Wide-eyed, he smiles mischievously and drank it.
"Skip. Puta," Ava said, muttering under her breath. Bodhi's eyes widened as he looked up from crocheting a new beanie for Lucky.
"Not in front of the child!" Bodhi said, placing down a card and then turned back towards the mint green ball of wool and continued knitting. It was already around ten centimeters in diameter. Around ten more centimeters was needed to fit the growing pup.
"I don't really care," Lucky said, placing back the now-empty glass onto the table beside him, and he looked around, wondering if there were more things he could take.
"但是, Lucky— You really have to patch things up with your Papa. You can't live the rest of your life like this," Bodhi said as he continued to crochet the next layer around the beanie.
"Ironic, ain't it, Bodhi, for someone like you to say that?" Ava said with a smirk as she continued to stare at her cards, groaning at her luck. She eventually placed a card down. Bodhi ignored her, but he felt his cheeks heating up and a nagging guilt in his mind.
"I can live the rest of my life hating my dad until I'm eighteen and can live without him, or maybe I can go back to Juane again," Lucky said, finally standing up, grabbing the empty glass and walking over to the opposite side of the room where the refrigerator was.
"Wait, who the hell is Juane?" Ava said, raising her eyebrows as she placed another card down, snapping her head towards the pup snooping in the fridge. Bodhi had also looked up from the forming beanie, quite curious. J.P. had never mentioned anything about someone named Juane.
"Papa's old boyfriend, or girlfriend. They kept changing their gender. They were nice, much better than he would ever be," Lucky said, slamming the door to the fridge with a loud slam and walking back to the couch, sitting down with a huff and a glass of milk in his paw.
"J.P. never told us that... Is that why he keeps disappearing every week for the past four years?" Bodhi asked in disbelief. He had many emotions swirling inside of him. The initial shock definitely struck by thunder, then confusion swirled within him.
The initial confusion he felt was how he had missed it, then morphed into a confusion on how that stork was able to hide it so well. The confusion slowly sprouted into more questions which he stopped himself from thinking. J.P. was entitled to privacy. He smiled, feeling happy that the other stork had found somebody. Yet beyond all that, he could feel a sadness trying to find its way into him, for what reason, he had no idea.
"I thought I'd be the first one to find someone, but boy was I wrong. Though he wasn't able to manage to keep them for long, was he? Not surprising," Ava said with a laugh, looking at the cards in her wing. Bodhi couldn't help but let out a small chuckle as well but stopped when he saw Lucky still remained expressionless, and maybe with a hint of remorse.
