Meeting Momo was probably the best thing that had ever happened to Dahyun. Not necessarily in the actual meeting, but in the many weeks afterward. A period of time that she would never take back for the whole entire world.
In the time that Dahyun had spent with Momo, she had learnt many things. How to look beyond how others see you. How to get back up on your feet and walk away. How to be there for someone when they're down. How to have fun and to feel. How to open up.
Dahyun's time with Momo was spent growing up. Growing from an immature and emotionally unstable twenty-year-old into an adult that could fend for herself. She was proud of the progress that she had made. Momo had been too.
"Well would you look at that." Momo smiled, nudging Dahyun a little with her shoulder as they walked through the neighbourhood. "You're finally giving me a smile."
Dahyun kept her eyes on her feet as they avoided the cracks on the path, but Momo was right. For the first time in what seemed like forever, a smile had found its way to Dahyun's lips. A genuine smile.
"Well," Dahyun forced herself to meet Momo's eyes, wanting her to look into them and see. To look right in and see that she was happy. "I guess I feel better when I'm with you."
"Good." Momo chuckled. "I'm doing my job right."
It wasn't just the smiled that Momo brought to Dahyun's face that made them proud of her progress. There was pure, unadulterated joy.
"Stop saying that!" Dahyun covered her open-mouthed smile and the light blush forming over her cheeks and curled into a ball on her bedroom floor. Momo laughed too, the sound of it only bringing Dahyun's mood ever higher.
"No, I will not stop saying it." She leaned down and lay beside Dahyun, her chest pushing into her back and her arms around her middle. She leaned into her ear and Dahyun could feel the cheeky smile even before her lips were close enough. "You are cute!!" She whispered and tickled Dahyun's stomach.
She squealed in delight and squirmed away from Momo so that they both lay on the ground in little heaps of smiles and gentle breathing.
"Why do you make me so happy?" Dahyun asked, keeping her eyes on the ceiling and instead imagining Momo's expression. Maybe a little smirk tugging at the ends on her mouth. She wondered if she turned to look at her.
"I'll admit that I have no idea," She said. "But if I make you happy, I won't stop."
Of course, from the happiness, different and new emotions became apparent. Feelings that bubbled to the surface when Momo looked Dahyun's way. A tug deep in Dahyun's chest that refused to go away and sometimes hurt. A warm flush and a flutter in her stomach whenever Momo complimented her. A longing.
Dahyun wondered how Momo had felt during their time together. In only a few weeks, Dahyun had felt so many things. Her mood had been so high for so long and she finally felt like someone actually cared about her. Someone who wanted her happiness above their own. It made her feel greedy as she sopped up all these positive emotions when she wasn't sure if she was giving any in return.
"Momo," Dahyun was speaking to her over the phone, yet she still felt as warm as if Momo was sitting right beside her. "Do I make you happy?"
A laugh on the other end – that wonderful laugh – at first made her nervous, but when she spoke, her voice soft and gentle, low and sincere, all the nerves flooded away.
