Previously: She had blonde hair, that's all they could tell.
Now:
"I don't see many people this far out in the woods."
The mysterious people looked at each other. I tilted my head.
"Right, we're traveling." The girl said cautiously.
"Yeah, exercise." The boy said with a small laugh.
I nodded.
"Have you seen any strange people out here?" The girl suddenly exclaimed.
" Besides you fine folk? Not in a while."
"Oh"
She seemed sad. Did I say something wrong? Way to go River, there's finally people again and you upset them.
"I'm Jack! This is Molly." the young man cut in.
"Well it's lovely to meet you both-"
I was cut off by the sounds of a Wolpertinger.
"Come, come. You don't want to make him upset!" I led them to Rivers Refuge, probably a terrible idea. But they haven't killed me yet! Ever the optomnist Riv. Thank you, Riv!
"Uh what's that?" Both the strange people wondered.
"Oh my new found friends, that's a Wolpertinger. He's quite grumpy if new people come to his land."
"A what!?"
"Oh there's nothing to worry about Jack, he's harmless really."
I smiled at their ignorance. Just like that kind old man said once. Oh what was it?...Oh! Yes, ignorance is bliss. It truly is a shame he had to get eaten by the Amarok. We did warn him.
"Mother, I'm home!"Molly and Jack exchanged worried looks, she had just called a bird her mother.
"I'll fake passing out so you can run."
"No jack, we run together."
"It's a good thing I found you both. The Amarok could have gotten you. He likes lone hunters but he does make exceptions."
Jack blinked.
"Huh?"
"What!"
"Oh pray you never find out." she smiled
" Molls we could take her. Look at her! She's small!"
" Jack be nice, she's let us into her home."
"Dude she's like--of her rocker man"
"Would you like some tea?"
'Either she's just ignoring us or she's blissfully unaware' Molly thought.
"Wed love some." Molly said as she elbowed jack.
"Yeah" he croaked.
The strange girl smiled, walking away, humming. Molly listened. The tune was that of a lullaby.
"That's a pretty song." Molly said following River, sparing a look at Jack who was snooping.
"Oh thank you! That's quite kind. Mother taught me it."
"Your- the bird is your mother?"
"Oh no i'm not crazy. She raised me. Therefore earning the title of mother."
"That's sweet."
"I think so as well."
There was a small lapse of silence.
"How long have you lived here?" Molly asked looking around, it would have taken years to acquire as much as River had.
"As long as I remember. Sometimes folk like you pass through. We trade wise words, secrets of life, and we bid farewell. You learn a lot about the world like that."
"I bet. I do hate to bother but are we heading in the right direction to the mountains if we continue on this trial?"
"Hmm I suppose, you've made a wrong turn or a few. You look as though you've lost something." the odd young girl added after a moment.
"Uh yeah i have."
" Oh that's terrible. I shall assist you. Wouldn't want you getting lost or worse."
"Oh that's nice, but you don't have to."
"Nonsense, I have nothing better to do with my time."
They both laughed. Molly was getting a sense of deja-vu. Jack then entered the kitchen like space.
"You got some cool stuff here!"
"Why thank you Jack." she smiled, and he smiled back.
We were safe from the monsters of the wild. But we had to find Max.
