YOON MYEONG-JU

Today was one of the best day of my life. I finally got everything I have ever wanted in life. I was with the love of my life, he was moving forward in life, I got back an old friend and got a new friend in Mo-yeon. What more can one wish for?

Opening the front door of my family home, I had brought homemade dinner for appa because I know that he was somehow behind all this.

"Appa?" I called out, but no reply. Thinking he must be in the washroom or something I deposited the food in the kitchen and looked through all the rooms. He was nowhere on the first floor which wasn't all that surprising. Once on the second floor, I went straight to his office.

But what welcomed me was a dusty room. For the love of god, appa can't clean. He is amazing at organizing but cleaning not that much. Eomma had always been the cleaner and after her, I was the one doing it. Thankfully Da-yong was very self-sufficient.

Taking a pit stop in my search, I started dusting the room. As I neared his table I couldn't help but think that his table looked slightly bare. Maybe he moved away somethings. Still, I glanced around the table and instead of some missing object I saw a retirement letter.

Retirement? I don't remember who was considering retirement in his unit. With shaky hands, I opened the letter.

Seeing his name on it, confirmed my worst hypothesis. My heartbeat shot up as I eyes scanned the contents of the letter.

"Myeong-ju?" Appa called from the bedroom.

I quickly folded the letter and placed it back. Schooling my expression I pretended to clean something at the other end of the room as appa entered the room.

"What are you doing at your old man's house at this time kid?"

I put up a smile, "Dae-young got a promotion. I know you already know, I mean that's why you called him. But we partied on the occasion and I thought I should bring some food myself. Have you eaten?"

Appa's lips twitched like they do when he trying not to laugh, "No I haven't, come on I was about to go to the canteen for some food. Let's see what my daughter has made for her old man."

That morning the father-daughter enjoyed a hearty breakfast. But both were hiding something behind there smiles.

YOO SHI-JIN

He ran upstairs to his room thinking of all the worst-case scenarios. He snatched a gun from the hallway emergency drawer. But when he entered instantly understood that he doesn't need the gun at all. Placing his gun down, he sat down beside a sobbing Mo-yeon. He guessed that she must have woken up from a bad nightmare.

"Mo-yeon, love, what happened?" he spoke in a small voice as to not to startle her anymore and sat close to her. Mo-yeon looked up at him with teary eyes and buried her face in his chest.

He rubbed her back and patiently waited for her to overcome her shock. Silence spoke more to Mo-yeon than sweet words, so had no choice but to physically provide comfort. It took a while but she calmed down and detached herself from him.

"I didn't... I didn't want to worry you but-"

"First drink some water. And take a deep breath for me." He handed her glass of water. Slowly her breathing evened as she emptied the glass.

"Now tell me what happened."

"Somebody shot .... shot you through the window at my house and ..... and then suddenly you are on a stretcher and I can't save you and Sergeant Choi is saying stop, you are ..... you are-"

"Hey, hey" I tilted her head up, "I am here and I am fine. Don't worry."

She took a few deep breaths and wiped the stray tears. "I know why I saw those sequences of events. It's kind of silly actually. Earlier, before you called me to go to Myeong-ju's house, I felt as if someone was watching me through the window of my house."

I froze but Mo-yeon continued, "And then I saw the letter when you went missing for that one year. I think it twisted my head and my mind manifested them into a nightmare."

Regaining my composer I said, " It's not silly. And didn't you promise me that we will talk about everything and that you won't shy away from telling me mundane things? Then you go and not talk about something which had been bugging you for a while."

"I promise I will tell you everything."

I smiled despite my internal turmoil, "Now let's sleep, I want to take you somewhere tomorrow."

"Sure. By the way why you downstairs and why did you bring the gun in?" She asked as she snuggled into me.

Hating myself for lying I said, "I went down to get some water and you know the gun is just my instinct."

She chuckled lowly and maybe the tiredness made her forget that water was already there.

As she dozed off I decide that it's time I bring the ace back in the game.

SEO DAE- YOUNG

I was on cloud nine and nobody can get me down from this high. The promotion seemed like a miracle but he knew it was not. The commander had hinted the person who had a big hand in the entire process.

I shouldn't have been surprised by their identity but he was. So I thought, I should personally thank her for all this.

And that was the reason I was spending the empty afternoon driving in the posh suburb of Seoul for a house visit.

Pressing the entrance bell I saw the security guard open the door as I gave him my name. I was on the permanent guest list. Asking him not to inform his boss, since I wanted to surprise her, I was let in the estate noiselessly.

As I approached the main door I noticed two more cars. Cars, I knew really well.

What the hell were Myeong-ju and Shi-jin doing here?
