Yoongi looked up, his jaw slack. "Excuse me?"Taehyung's mother just sighed, straightening her shoulders. "You're a bad influence. I don't care how much money you have or whatever, but I don't want Taehyung to become a drug addict, which is bound to happen if he stays your 'boyfriend'."
Yoongi didn't know how to respond. He knew of those prejudices but never had someone told him this to his face. They wrote about it in articles and interviews, but they never said it to his face. His heart sunk, and he was unable to even think.
Suddenly, Taehyung stirred on his lap, probably sensing how tense he was. The omega looked at his parents, whose eyes immediately softened. "You care about me, right?" he whispered, clinging onto Yoongi's shirt.
"Of course we do," his mother cooed, the fire in her eyes extinguished. Taehyung took a deep breath, "Then why do you want to take away my happiness?"
"We don't want to take away your happiness," his father said, gaze locked with Yoongi's. "We are just worried about you. You're the eldest son and an omega—"
Taehyung barked out a heartless laugh, shaking his head in disbelief. "Stop worrying about me! As you can see, I'm fine! I'm twenty-one years old, for god's sake! I can make my own decisions. I am my own person with my own values, and old enough to decide for myself. Just— stop imposing your will on me!"
Taehyung's mother gasped in disbelief, and his father's face went blank. Never had Taehyung lashed out at them, raised his voice even. Taehyung just took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
"See, it already has begun!" his mother griped, standing up from her chair. "Our Taehyung would have never—"
But before his mother could start to go berserk, Taehyung's father gently pushed her back down by the shoulders. "Jinae darling, please calm down," he murmured, obviously embarrassed about his wife's behavior in front of an idol.
Yoongi fought to bite back a satisfied grin threatening to spread across his face, not wanting the situation to get out of hand even more. So he kept his stoic expression, staring his mate's mother down.
"I will not calm down! Can't you see that he's a bad influence?" she hissed, gesturing to Yoongi. And that's when Taehyung has had enough. "Mum?" he said, voice emotionless. Jinae looked up, the fury in her eyes still present.
"You do realize that we're fated mates, right? Not even you can reverse that. Yoongi has been meant for me since I've been born. And I've waited twenty-one years for this moment, and you know that. Despite all the nights I called you crying, talking about this exact matter, you still want to take it away from me?"
Taehyung just calmly looked at his mother, proud of the conflicted look in her eyes. His father stayed quiet, but Taehyung didn't blame him. He knew that his mother was quite the fury; he admired that man for holding up this long in general.
