Uhm, fuck, I'm rusty, forgive me....

Me: Uhm, I just received a package in the mail from you?

Cole: Don't open the package until our video chat tonight.

Me: But that won't be for hours and I wanna look now.

Cole: I promise, baby girl, the wait is worth it...

Quickly, I shove the box under my bed in an out of sight out of mind attempt to control my curiosity.

The rest of the day, I spend tidying up my apartment and doing laundry. Not much else you can do while in quarantine due to a worldwide pandemic. The whole world went on lockdown, some countries at different severity of closing and shutting their countries down. The US has been too lenient on the severity of our lockdown, so most of the people have taken it upon ourselves to quarantine and social distance strictly in our own ways by working from home, ordering groceries to be delivered, and not going out into public unless absolutely necessary. That also means that I have not physically seen Colby in almost 3 months, and I miss him. We spend our time apart so that I can still safely see my Nana. I wouldn't forgive myself if I brought something to her house and she got sick. So to be safe, I moved back into my old apartment and Colby stays in the house with the rest of our friends. We video chat every night, if possible, and have movie nights every other weekend, thanks to most streaming services adding a group watch feature. It's hard being apart, but we do what we can to keep our loved ones safe.

My phone's alarm goes off, and my stomach flips, it must be six in the evening, I can video call Colby now. Just as I am shutting my bedroom door, I live alone here, but it's a habit, my phone rings, Colby's goofy face flashing on the screen. I answer before I am on my bed; I want to hear his voice.

"Hello, beautiful," he says, smile on his face. I know this from the sound of his voice alone.

"Hiii" I say sweetly, butterflies invading my stomach. He still makes me nervous in the best ways. I reach for the tripod with the phone attachment and set my phone into the clamps.

"There you are," he smiles when I come into view.

"Can I open the box now?" I ask, my curiosity making me grow impatient.

"Yes," Colby chuckles and I want to kiss his face from the smirk he is giving me.

Excitement floods my body as I reach under the bed for the box I hid away earlier in the day. In no time I have the box opened to reveal another smaller box inside, it's white with shiny text scrawled across the surface.

"It's already set up," he says, a small smile forming as the box literally begins vibrating as my eyes connect with the shiny words.

"Ah!" I scream in surprise, dropping the box in the process.

He laughs, "It won't hurt you!" I look up to see his broad smile, a low chuckle coming from him while he tries, and fails, to contain his amusement.

"When did you get this?"

"A few weeks ago," I reach for the box, beginning to open it up, "-but there's more," he says and I hear rustling coming from his end. My eyes dart up to see he is holding a box of his own.

"Is that a-" I gasp, unable to say the words.

"You can say it," he goads; he finds my inability to say it amusing.

"That's a- that is a ring-"

"Uh huh," he coaxes, quirking one eyebrow, tongue lightly pressed to the back of his teeth.
