Author's Note: This is a modern day version of Romeo and Juliet. So, I think I'm supposed to give credit to Shakespeare and the original Romeo and Juliet play here, so . . . there ya go. :) Full credit given. :D
This is what I think would happen in a modern day Romeo and Juliet story . . . .
Enjoy, little Romeo and Juliet lovers . . . . (Haha, that sounded pretty creepy, didn't it? ;D Or maybe I only think that . . . .)
Chapter One
Jennel never really appreciated her freedom until it was snatched from her.
By her mom, to say the least.
For the past two weeks, Jennel started to notice her mom acting differently around her. At first, it was subtle changes, like at dinner she'd start to ask her if any boys at school had caught her eye. Psh, as if Jennel would tell her that. That's personal info that Jennel barely even shared with her friends, just so they wouldn't knowingly grin whenever they walked by in the hallways.
When Jennel refused to say anything about boys that she liked, her mom got more demanding. She'd start to ground her to her room for hours on end. Jennel figured she was the only girl in her whole school that had a mom who was actually pressuring her daughter to get a boyfriend. Aren't most mothers trying to prevent their daughters from dating? It just doesn't make any sense.
It was bad enough that she didn't have anyone around to tell her mom to act sensible. Her dad has been divorced from her mom since she was six, and she rarely sees him anymore. He only visits in the summer when their town has this big bingo festival. He really loves his bingo, you could say. He became quite the hit with all the old ladies who always come to the festival.
To add to Jennel's loneliness, she has no siblings. Her friends claim that she's lucky that she doesn't have any brothers or sisters to annoy the crap out of her, but Jennel thinks otherwise. Having a brother or a sister could be fun! That way her mom could direct more attention towards them, instead of Jennel.
But Jennel isn't anywhere near emotional about the issue. Everyone has a couple problems in their life, and her mom being annoying is just one of them.
Currently, Jennel was sitting in her room on a seat next to a window. Rain was pouring down outside, and she was watching the raindrops trail down her window like runners in a big marathon. She was relaxing in her room because of the bad weather outside.
Jennel’s phone vibrated in her pocket, and she fell off the seat she had been sitting on in surprise. You could say Jennel is easily frightened, which really stinks sometimes.
When she pulled her phone out of her pocket to see who had texted her, she immediately saw it was Pierre. He was this thirty year old creep who her mom wants her to date. Jennel was pretty sure the major age difference between them was illegal, but that didn't seem to stop her mom. She was worried that Jennel wasn't capable of finding a guy her own age, so she took matters into her own hands. Her mom said her reasons for interfering with Jennel's nonexistent "love life" was because she wanted to have another "heir" one day, but that wouldn't happen if Jennel could never find a dude willing to date her. Her mom just didn't get that they weren't royalty.
Jennel opened the text message from Pierre and slowly read it.
I see you, but I’m not going to blink because you’re so beautiful.
If that wasn't creepiness overload, then Jennel didn't know what was. Just to be safe, Jennel cautiously pulled the string that released her blinds on her window. She knew Pierre had to be lurking somewhere below her window and that was her last resort to hide from him.
