I wake up , lights still dimmed and Professor Tunk is still slouched over in his chair. I stand myself up and I survey around for an exit. I see a long hallway in the far corner of the room. Before I exit I snag a pencil from a small cup and take a note card from the stack sitting beside the cup. I write my phone number down and lay it on the keyboard in front of where he is asleep. I turn and back walk to the hallway. I discover the light switch in the darkness and flick it on. The blue walls surround me and outline a half dozen doorways. I approach the first door on the left and pull on the handle. It clicks and I push through to see what looks like just an ordinary bathroom. It looks like one you'd find in a house and not some sort of laboratory that I find myself in. I turn and try the door across the hall. The handle doesn't click , locked. I hope there wasn't an exit on the other side of that door. I think about this as I walk to the next set of doors. I try the first one on the right and it opens. I walk into a room only illuminated by the leaking in from the hallway. I place my left hand on the wall and wipe it up and down hoping to flip on a light. After not hitting anything I repeat the same motion with my right hand. Almost instantly I slap a light on. The room turns out to be a garage holding Tunk's white research van. The garage happens is a very cramped space with junk sprawled out around the van. I spot my bike resting against the back of the van , the paint appears to be chipped ,but not any structural damage. I grab the small strap connected to the garage door and pull it up. The horrific noise the door makes sounds like a fork in a blender. The noise makes me nervous that at any moment the door could come crashing down when I let go of the strap. I pull it all the way up and I need a little click which makes me think it latched or is being held in place somehow. My phone which I totally forgot was in my pocket explodes with vibrating notifications. I stroll out of the garage and the sun is setting and I partially recognize the road in front of me. If I'm correct I'm about two miles East of north Lovington , so not a hard trek home. Before I hop on my bike I look at my notifications and to my surprise I see I have over three hundred texts. As I scroll through all my notifications I get the idea that someone caught my scuffle earlier on video.Rocky's most recent message was a link. I slide on the notification and type in my password to open the chat between him and I. I see several other texts ,but the link opens in my browser before I can read any. The link sends me to a YouTube video which I'm unsure why the link before wasn't a YouTube link ,but either way the video with nearly two million views and the title of "Kid with super strength fights off bully" plays.
The video is oddly clear and shot close enough you can see that it is me getting pulled up by my collar. The video then shows me catching his punch then my arm glowing in a red almost fiery swing launching him what is actually farther than I remember. Zach flies nearly fifteen feet away and gets around three feet off of the ground. I scroll down in the comments , people fighting if the video is real or not. A good portion writes it off as a school project with an amazing editor. I go back to my text messages scrolling through all the direct messages from people I haven't talked to in years. Then a number with my area code has one text notification on it.
"I know you are probably busy ,but I need to speak with you ,it's urgent, please get back to me ASAP Finn," I read as I wonder who this could be.
"I'm free now , what's up?" I respond and it seems like before the text was even sent my phone buzzes.
The call , from the number I just texted catches me off guard. I answer and put the phone up to my ear.
"Hello , it's Finn," I cringe as I say ,because of course it's Finn.
"Finn, how did you get your powers? Is it just strength ,because stuff is changing and I'm scared.." the voice is frantic ,but familiar. Too familiar.
