KILO'S POV

How does he do it? I sigh and shake my head as I look at the small star. Castyr is sound asleep in the chair next to me. I take off my coat and gently lay it over him. The star sighs sweetly in his sleep, a little smile appearing on his lips. I cannot help but smile at him. Castyr glows happily and snuggles into the coat.

I lean against the back of the chair and watch the small star. A strand of silver hair falls into his face. His little button nose twitches at the touch of the strand. I pull the coat under his chin and gently move the strand out of the star's face.

He is finally safe. We are almost to Borum, and have a way to get to Earth. These past few days have been crazy, but at least Castyr is safe right now. I have been protecting him for a hundred years, but I am still scared I will lose him.

Another thought gets my heart speeding. I finally met him, though! Castyr knows my name. I catch myself giving a slight smile.

Agh! What am I thinking?! You are happy Castyr knows you exist when he almost died?! I huff a breath of air and run my fingers through my hair.

I stand from the passenger chair and leave sleeping Castyr. I slip into the empty co-pilot's chair next to Devyn and stare out the window. Devyn switches his craft into auto mode before turning to look at me.

"What's wrong?"

"Hmm? Oh, nothing."

"Something's bothering you."

I sigh and lean back. "Castyr. I'm worried I won't be enough."

"Hmmm," Devyn bobs his head. "That's not something you need to worry about," he says matter-of-factly.

"What do you mean? Castyr almost died!"

"But he didn't. You protected him."

"But what if I slip up?"

"You won't. You have a, uh, how do I say this? You have a drive. You'll be enough because you care about him."

"He's my star. I'm supposed to protect him."

"Yes, but you care for him more than how an angel cares for his star. Something...maybe like l-"

A moan from Castyr cuts off Devyn. We turn to watch the small star open his big eyes. Castyr sits up sleepily and looks around.

"Have a good nap?" Devyn asks.

Castyr nods.

"When will we arrive?" I ask Devyn.

"In five hours."

I nod in confirmation and look back to see Castyr slipping on my coat. I chuckle as the coat engulfs him. Figures, he is used to his warm residence. He has probably never been this cold.

Castyr leaves his chair and waddles over to me. He plops himself in my lap and looks out the window. My eyes widen as I stare at the silver head in front of me.

"Ermmm....Castyr..."

"Can I stay here? I want to look at the stars." Castyr turns and looks at me. "It reminds me of home."

"...Uh...ok."

Castyr smiles and leans into me. "Also, I thought you might be cold since I'm wearing your jacket and your coat."

"Uh...I'm fine...but thanks." I side glance at Devyn to see him putting in ear buds. He starts bopping his head to a song within a few seconds.

Castyr nestles into my lap and begins looking at the stars. His big eyes reflect the constellations, and his mouth is open in awe. After a few minutes, Castyr turns in my lap to face me. My face grows hot as my heart starts racing.

He leans in, placing his face right in front of mine. He is so...close. I gulp.

"Kilo," Castyr smiles.

"Hmm?" I raise an eyebrow. Why does it feel so good when he says my name? I almost melted.

"Look into my eyes."

Ok, that did it. I'm done for. My heart races faster as I stare into his eyes.

"What do you see?" Castyr asks. I hold my breath as Castyr leans in and blinks his big eyes.

I look closer. Castyr's eyes are the deep, dark blue color of the night sky. Tiny, sparkling stars shimmer in his eyes. It is almost as if a whole galaxy is held in Castyr's eyes. The stars are almost unseeable unless you are right in front of them...like me.

"I see stars."

"Really?! Yes!" A giant smile covers Castyr's face. He squints his eyes in delight. His smile makes my heart skip...even more.

"Why? Why're you so happy?" I smile.

"Well..I always saw them when I looked in the mirror. I just didn't know if other people can see them. I was always told not everyone can see them, so I was wondering if you can," Castyr says in one breath. His big smile returns after he catches his breath.

"Ok," I chuckle and stare at the star.

Castyr calms down and looks at me. Our eyes meet. There it goes! My cheeks glow red, but I do not want to look away.

A sudden rumble and jerk of the craft startles us. I instinctively wrap my arms around Castyr's waist and pull him in. Castyr wraps his arms around my neck and closes his eyes as he nestles his head in the nook of my neck.

The rumble stops after a few moments. Castyr opens his eyes and looks at me. A shiver runs down my spine as Castyr's thumb strokes the back of my neck. I feel the heat from Castyr's body and realize how closely I had pulled him. He is sitting on my hips.

"Sorry about that." Devyn's voice shocks me out of whatever trance I was just in. We both look at Devyn. "We just went through a small meteor field," the human adds to his apology before putting his ear bud back in.

I look back at Castyr; he looks back at me. He slowly unlocks his fingers from around my neck. I remove my arms from around his waist. Castyr clears his throat and turns back around.

I release a pent-up breath as we break eye contact and Castyr faces the window. Surprisingly, Castyr leans back and rests against my chest.

Well, it is not like I have not held him before. I wrap my arms back around the star and hold him. He settles his head in the niche of my neck, his soft hair tickling my chin.

I look down at him and smile. I catch a whiff of his airy yet warm scent and just about melt in my seat. I resist the urge to kiss him on the top of his head. Instead, my eyes trail down to his lips. Nope! Get your head out of the gutter! I snap my head back and look out the window.

After a few minutes, I sneak a glance at Castyr.  He watches the constellations and distant galaxies with his big eyes.
