Chapter 31: For now

Normal pov

"You want to... break it?" Shizui asks with a small voice

Lan Jingyi scratch his head and look at Shizui eyes.

"You want that right?"

"Wha- I never!-" Shizui raised his voice but immediately shut his mouth. Noise is prohibited at Gusu.

"You never? Then you want to..... marry me?" Lan Jingyi stared at him with a wide eyes.

Lan Shizui didn't answer but he can see his face is getting red.

Lan Jingyi gasped.

His brain started to work again, to the point he is afraid that he'll overuse his brain for today.

"Shizui... you like me?"

"I.. don't know"

"Then why?"

"I mean, I enjoy your company. I enjoy stay by your side and do many things together... but I don't know if that's mean I like you as someone I love or.. just as a friend"
Lan Shizui looks down.

Lan Jingyi honestly feel the same. They basically glued together almost 24/7. Being far from each other is something weird. These past few days avoiding Lan Shizui is actually torturing him too.

"But Jin Ling....." Lan Jingyi mumbles.

"What's wrong with Jin Ling?" Lan Shizui asked.

"Don't you think he is cute?"

"...."

They both went silent.

"Yes, he is cute" Lan Shizui finally answered.

"Then, do you like him?"

"Romantically?"

Lan Jinyi nods.

"Well.... I'm not sure"

Lan Shizui looks away. He does think that Jin Ling is cute and he is indeed interested on him before, but not after things happened between him and Jingyi.

"Um... you know, this might took a while so why don't we talk inside?" Lan Jingyi voice snaps Shizui from his thought.

They've been standing in front of their quarters for a while now. While Shizui didn't mind standing for long, Jingyi started to feel tired of standing.

"Ah, sure" so they went inside, to Shizui's room.

They sit down, face to face. They think this problem need to be solved as soon as possible.

"Jingyi, you like Jin Ling?"

Lan Jingyi slowly nodded.

And Lan Shizui feel his chest tightened again.

"How about me?" Lan Shizui asked.

"I like you too"

Lan Shizui frozen.

Lan Jingyi, is a playboy? How can he grow up to be one when they always together since childhood? Jingyi barely showed any intrest in romance, and now he shows me those intrest he pick two ? Not one?

"Honestly, don't think bad about me Shizui"

Lan Shizui smiled, yeah of course he knows what Shizui thinks.

"Its just.. few days ago, Jin Ling came"

"Then?"

"He told me to fight one on one with him"

Lan Shizui gasped.

"Why?"

"Because he likes you and he wishes for me to annul the engagement"

That explains everything, Lan Shizui said in his head.

"And he is so cute when he just shout into my face" Lan Jingyi chuckles.

Lan Shizui chuckles too. He can imagine how red Jin Ling's face and what kind of rude words coming out from his mouth.

"Indeed, he is cute"

"Right? In one side, I like you. The fact that I'm engaged to you makes everything easier. But on the other side, I feel guilty since Jin Ling likes you and.. yeah I like Jin Ling too" Lan Jingyi scratches his neck.

Lan Shizui hummed. He understand.

"Then, how about... 2 cultivation partner?"

"Gusu allowed 2 cultivation partner?!" Lan Jingyi gasped.

"We've learned about this before, Jingyi"

"Well, that solved everything!"

"Not everything" Lan Shizui said.

"I... don't know whether I will like Jin Ling romantically" he added, avoiding Jingyi's eyes.

"O-oh right..."

There's another silent between them.

"Then let's.. take things slow. We don't need to cancel our engagement. It's not like we're going to get married tomorrow" Lan Jingyi nodded. Satisfied of how wise he is.

Lan Shizui smiled. He hold Jingyi's hand.

"I like that idea"

They both stare at each other for a while. The distance between them is getting smaller. No one knows who intiate it, but suddenly, their lips are touching.

"We decided to keep our engagement"
Lan Shizui said to his parents.

They currently have a breakfast at Jingshi, a very much usual routine of their small family
Wei Wuxian squeals happily and hug his son. Lan Shizui put down his chopsticks and hug his dad. And Lan Wangji keep eating quietly, only Wei Wuxian knows that his husband is delighted with the good news.

"But dad, father...."

Lan Wangji stopped eating and Wei Wuxian looks at Shizui, trying to guess what their little radish will say.

"Can I... have 2 cultivation partner?"
