PROLOGUE
ELECTRA
"Please, please, I am sorry. I will not do it again." Electra begs asshe gets dragged into solitary confinement by four huge guards and two nurses.
Despitethe straightjacket that they forced her into, Electra still attempts to breakfree from their hold.
"Letme go!" She screams, which earns her a slap from one of the guards.
"Ifyou do not behave; you will be spending an entire month in solitary confinementinstead of a week." One of the nurses threatens her. Her threat causes Electrato keep her mouth shut, but she still struggles in their hold all the way tothe fifth floor where the cells for solitary confinement are.
Theythrow her in cell number 496 causing her to painfully fall to the ground on herside. She whimpers as they step out of the cell leaving her alone in the dark.
"Crazybitch." Another guard mutters as the second nurse puts her card on theelectrical lock causing the door to close.
Electraremains on the floor crying for a few minutes as a headache starts to form inher head.
Weshould murder every single one of these bastards. A voice in her head says angrily.
Orwe can set them on fire. Another softer voice replies.
Electrashuts both of the voices out as she hugs herself and cries against the floor.
"Areyou okay?" A male voice asks her, the voice is detached, far away; she canbarely hear it.
Electrastops crying, gets up, and starts looking around the gloomy small area tosearch for the source of the voice.
"Isanybody here?" She asks quietly.
"Cometo the window." She walks to small window that s very high on the wall. Shecannot reach it, so, she moves the small wooden chair that is beside the smallbed with her feet and stands on it.
"Iam at the window." She says as she struggles with her balance. The straightjacketmakes her feel like she is going to fall.
"Iam in the cell next to yours. Are you okay? I heard you cry." The man says.
"Iam fine." She whispers as she blushes a little bit at the concern in his tone.
"Good. How long will you be detained here?"
"Aweek, even though I am not the one who started the fight." She mumbles the lastpart to herself, although with the lack of wind in this particular night, sheis sure he hears her clearly.
"Sadly, these bastards do not care about that." The man replies bitterly.
"Well, the silver lining is I will be here for the next week as well. So hopefully, wecan keep each other company." He continues.
"Iwould love that." She whispers with relief; the thought of not spending thenext seven days in utter loneliness in the darkness calms her nerves down. Itis not that she is afraid of the dark, but of the quiet that comes along withit. The voices come to life when it is silent; they become louder.
Shedoes not fear the voices; they are her friends. However, when they get loud, the headache becomes intolerable, especially when one of them fights forcontrol.
So,having a companion, even if there is a wall between them, comforts her.
"Whydid you get put into solitary?" Electra asks the man.
"Well, let us just say, I did something I was not supposed to do without thinkingabout the consequences." He does not sound affected by the fact that he is in adark cell.
"Howlong have you been here?" She wonders out loud.
"Youmean solitary, or the mental institution?"
"Both?"She answers uncertainly.
"Ihave been in solitary for two weeks, and I have been a patient for about sixmonths."
"Iam so sorry they locked you in the dark for so long." She replies quietly.
"Itis okay, I am not afraid of the dark. What about you? When did you become apatient here?"
"Ihave been here since I was eighteen years old." A tear almost falls down hercheek at the memory of how she was brought here.
"Andhow old are you now?"
"Iwill turn twenty three by the end of the month." She replies.
"Happybirthday." His voice turns even softer than before.
"Thankyou." She blushes once again; she has always been a shy person.
"So,if we are going to be friends, then I should at least know your name." Eventhough she cannot see him and she does not know how he looks like, she canstill picture him smiling.
"Iam Electra."
"Itis nice to meet you Electra, I am Ignazio."
