"Melina, Melina come on! Your gonna be late for your first day of school." I yelled while cooking breakfast. "Coming, mom." She replied, running down the stairs and grabbing her things. "Wait, eat this real quick." I handed her a plate of eggs and bacon on it. She ate it in two seconds sharp, which surprised me. "Have a good day, honey!" I screamed, waving to her as she ran out the door and onto the bus. Gregory came down stairs and grabbed me from behind. "Our little girl is growing up." He said, touched my hair softly. I moaned. "Stop reminding me." I grabbed my coffee and sat to read the weekly newspaper. "Honey, would you like to go and see a museum? My colleague gave me free tickets." Gregory said, spreading butter on his toast. "Of course, what time?" I yelled. "Around 12:45." I looked at the time. It was 8:13am, so I had plenty of time. "It's over an hour away, but we should get back before Melina gets home." He said. "So I outta get ready?" I said, chuckling. He smirked. "I guess." I walked upstairs and started to get ready. I put on a purple blouse my grandmother got me for Christmas and some black leggings and brown Michael Kors boots. I walked over to Gregory, and said, "Is this okay?" I posed. "Wow, beautiful." He said. I walked over to him and kissed him. "What are you wearing?" I said, walking over to his closet. "This suit?" I placed it on his lap. He raised an eyebrow. "I thought I would wear a nice shirt and khakis." He said, hanging the suit back up in his closet. I rolled my eyes. "Oh honey- alright."
Time flew by, and Gregory and I headed to the museum. The museum was priceless. It was beautiful and full of ancient history that was incredibly unbelievable. My cell phone started to ring. "Hello?" I answered. A random voice answered. "Hello, this is Amanda Lilac, principle of Zara Middle School. You are Melina Jackson's mother, correct?" I swallowed, what was up? "Yes, that is correct. What do you need?" I asked. I was nervous. Was my daughter okay? "Your daughter...is ill. She fainted during third period." The world stopped at that very moment. "Gregory!" I yelled. Everything felt as if it was in slow motion. I told Gregory what happened and we raced to the car and headed to Melina's school. "Come on, come on." I exclaimed, biting my nails. "I'm trying, honey. I'm sure everything's alright." Gregory said, grabbing my hand and kissing it. I pulled my hand away. "But what if it's not, Greg? What if she's not okay?" I exclaimed. I placed my hand on my head. "I-I'm sorry, I'm just worried." Gregory smiled a little, and looked at me. "Don't worry, babe."
We had arrived at the school. We ran inside, and they told us they took her to the hospital. I almost ripped my hair out, for that information would've been nice to know over the phone. We headed to the hospital, and ran straight to the counter. "Melina Jackson?" I asked. "Right around the corner to the left, Room A57." Gregory and I ran as fast we could. Once we got to the room, we saw her lying there, tired and sick. "My baby!" I yelled, crying uncontrollably. "Baby! Baby! Are you alright?" I yelled, feeling her head and rubbing her hair. "I'm fine, mom. I was just anxious cause' it's my first day. No biggie." She said, grabbing my arm. "It is a "biggie"! You fainted at school!" I exclaimed. "What did the doctor say?" Gregory asked. "They said they have to run some tests, and they will have me back sometime next week." Melina said, looking at her fingernails. "So your good to go?" I said. "Yes, they were just waiting for you guys to get here." We checked her out of the hospital and headed back home.
Days had gone by since the incident, and a little part of me wondered what really was going on with Melina. Is she okay? I hoped the doctors would call soon. I tried to keep my mind off of it.
Gregory exclaimed, "I'm going to the grocery store, need anything?" I got up and walked into the kitchen. "Oh honey, let me go. You need to get ready for work anyway." I said, rubbing his cheeks. He smiled. "Thank you, love." He kissed me, grabbed his coffee, and headed upstairs. Melina walked in. "I can go, mom." She grabbed the car keys out of my hand and headed out the door. I was shocked. "Thanks!" I yelled with sarcasm. I started to wash the dishes as I heard the car drive off.
