The precinct was dark and at first glance abandoned, but in the corner sat a dim lamp shining on several photos of Jack Grayson and his past. Investigating the detective was internal affairs investigator Daniel Ryans, a celebrated officer who had uncovered some of the police's most corrupt leaders.
The elevator pinged and the doors flung open, "what are you doing inspector, I know you're investigating my best detective with no reason or evi-"
Ryans swiftly interrupts him, "Actually we have plenty of evidence to assume that after Jack Grayson recovered from his childhood trauma, he was closely associated with this nurse that the entire country is looking for."
The Captain furiously, "That was over a decade ago just after he lost everything he ever had. Now he's the best detective I've ever seen and with his connections to the nurse is our best bet in finding her."
"You may be right Captain," responded Ryans, "but he is a liability and cannot be allowed to interfere with the most important case of the century."
"ARRR! Ryans, you haven't seen him work, he does not stop. His drive is incomparable and his results are exceptional. What ever happened between him and the nurse has been long forgotten."
"But Captain, how can you know he's moved past it and come to terms with it."
"Oh for god sake, he's come to terms with the murder of his entire family and you don't think he can't do the same with whatever happened to him and the nurse. You, inspector, are too closed minded to the potential of Jack." The captain's voice trembled while saying this, Grayson's past had clearly had an effect on him.
"I think that, captain," Ryans said sarcastically, "you have become too attached... However," his tone changed and became sincere, "you make some excellent point and the statistics do not lie so I am willing to allow him on the case."
The captain was ready to retaliate but was shocked to have come to an agreement with the internal affairs investigator, "I am glad to see us come to a fair conclusion" the captain turns to leave but Ryans speaks again.
"Captain," he pauses, "one slip up and he's off immediately."
Captain Rogers sighs and nods, walking off without looking back.
