As Riley steps out of the mini-van he mentally scoffs at the decrepit looking portables that he's supposed to learn out of for the next three years until they build the school building."I'll pick you up at 3 O'clock, okay." He leans down so he can see his mother inside the car. "okay mom see you then", he says as he puts his large back-pack on. He grins as he walks up to the deck for a pre-class seminar from the administration staff. Although being reasonably outgoing he normally doesn't like the feeling of being in or around the spotlight.
He decides to hang aroung the back and stay un-noticed until he feels safe around all these new people and their unfamiliar personalities. As he always does he looks around to get a feel of his surroundings so he can beat the flood of people on their way to class.
He is extremely excited about being chosen to go to this amazing school. It's an honor to get in to this school becuase of it's low acceptance rates. Out of the 14 high schools that students are coming from only 100 are accepted each year. He is also sad about not being with his friends that he has been with since 2nd grade. The only people he truly felt comfortable being around when he was first introduced into that strange classroom in the foothills of South Carolina. Before That he was in a different school every year. The root of that is not something he wants to talk about. He feels most sad about his ex-girlfriend Rachel. He still doesn't know why she broke up with him in the first place. It was the first serious relationship he had. His first kiss came with that relationship too. He mostly forgot about it over the summer but the familiar environment that is associated with knowlege and learning brought it all back to him in a rush of emotion.
He scolds himself for feeling sad on a beautiful day such as this where it's warm and sunny already. Then he notices that the thing he likes best about here is that fact that there is no dreary gloomy halls for him to walk through, day after day.
As the seminar finishes up he makes his way over to the deck exit and glances down at the map and his schedule to see where his first class is. "first period is P.E... Wonderful" he says sarcastically.
