I was really going to miss my best friend, Luke. He was my other half, but sadly, I'm moving back to America, and leaving him behind. I've known Luke since i was 6. My dad's in the military so he was stationed over here in Sydney, Australia. Being a kid, I didn't mind the move, but now I dread having to move back.
I first met Luke on my first day at my new school. I wasn't really worried because it was just first grade. I remember getting on the bus and waving bye to my dad as I searched for a seat. There was this little blonde boy with the cutest blue eyes, waving at me to sit next to him, so I did.
"Hi! my name's Luke. What's yours?" He asked.
"My name's Lexie. It's nice to meet you."
"oh that's nice. Are you new? Where are you from? Why'd you come here?........"
The questions just kept on coming. I had to giggle because it was all kind of silly. he was such a chatter box. I was partly giggling because of his voice. I still wasn't used to hearing the strange Australian accents. I'm pretty sure I sounded funny to them as well, with my New York accent. We were together all day untill we got off the bus to go home. He told me I just had to come over and play sometime and he gave me his address. He was a persistant little fellow. We've been joined at the hip ever since. Always looking out for each other and having each other's backs.
Today was our anniversary of becoming friends, and I had to tell him I was leaving the day after my 15th birthday. It wasn't going to be easy. I wanted today to be fun and happy.
Life in Sydney was great. I had amazing friends and I was doing great in school. I would miss the beautiful beaches too. Sitting and watching the sunset with Luke and our friends Michael and Calum. They had this little band together called 5 Seconds of Summer. Luke was the lead singer and he played guitar. Michael played guitar and could sing. Calum played the bass and sang as well. They were pretty damn good.
"Lex, Luke is here!" my dad yelled.
"Okay I'm coming, dad!"
I slowly walked downstairs. I wasn't in a hurry to tell Luke anything. As I got down to the living room I saw Luke standing there in his favorite Nirvana t-shirt and ripped jeans. He saw me and smiled.
"You ready for a day of fun?" he eagerly asks.
I laughed. "You know I'm always ready for fun."
That made him laugh. He hurried me out the door. He seemed so excited, and it broke my heart because I know at the end of the day he won't be so happy.
"Alright, Luke. Spill it. What do you have planned?"
He gave me a skirk that showed off his dimples. I glared at him and he laughed.
"Nope. That look isn't going to work this time Lexie. Don't worry we're almost there anyway."
As we rounded the corner i saw exactly where he was taking me. It was this new amusement/water park that just opened a few weeks ago. i had been telling Luke how much i wanted to go since the commercials started playing.
"Luke! You didn't! this is the best!" I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek. He blushed and flashed me a grin.
"I'm glad you like the surprise. You should've seen your face. You lit up like a kid on Christmas."
I giggled and playfully punched him in the arm. "Oh shut up you."
We rode all the roller coasters and water rides. Luke had even won me a penguin at one of the game booths. It was the perfect day. We were walking on the boardwalk when I finally got the courage to tell Luke.
"Hey Luke, I have something I have to tell you."
