Six: Buzz & Butt
I could feel Holly's gaze on me as we sat out in the back around the pool. Still in the clothes we wore to school. It was about four fifteen when we decided that it would be a good time to leave the confinements of my room.
"Where is your mum?" Holly had asked as we made out descent down the stairs of the house, before weaving our way through boxes that had been sitting in those spots for two weeks now.
"At work still probably." Was my simple reply before adding, "She's the manager, stays there until closing time to lock up."
Which had produced another question into the blonde's mind, "What does she do?"
Then I had slid the back door open, answering her with, "Mechanics." Before I walked out the house into the still warm afternoon sun.
We'd been sitting outside just chatting for probably around ten minutes before we went silent around five minutes ago, just sitting under the massive oak tree in the corner of the yard.
"What's troubling you Holly?" I question looking over at her as she does her little glance at me, then glance away, most likely hoping I don't see her little glances she kept giving me.
She lets out a squeak upon being caught out and looks away, shrugging her shoulders lightly, "Just a little curious I suppose."
I smile a little as she 'brushes off' her curiosity with a little wave, "Oh and what would you be curious about?"
Holly turns to look at me and sits up straight, pulling her legs in and crossing them under her, "Well your aim for this was to get to know more girls right?" I say nothing and just nod, "So I thought that maybe we should share some things about ourselves, get to know each other, you might find it easier in this town having a girl as a good friend than just three of the boys."
I tilt my head and pull my feet in, copying the blonde as I sit cross legged as well, facing her. "What's wrong with befriending the boys?" I can't help but ask.
Holly flashes me a little smile, "Don't repeat this to Liam, everyone knows he doesn't need his ego stroked, but there's no denying that he's popular, same with Josh and Shannon, all three on different levels of course but popular, in ways, they be." She lets out a giggle at her own words. "But with popularity and friends of opposite genders in generates hate from others." Upon seeing my confused expression Holly's expression turns thoughtful before she holds a finger up and lets out a little gasp of realisation. "Like there's no secret you and Shannon are friends, I mean anyone can see that you two are pretty close."
I look down at the sentence hearing the sadness seep into her voice and expression as her eyes drop a little, I'd have to question her about them, even if she doesn't answer, I still need to ask her.
She shakes her head, pushing her blonde locks back as she continues, "Anyway like I was saying, you and Shannon," Holly hesitates at his name before taking a deep breath and continuing, "Obviously get along quite well and there's this girl, Mia, she doesn't like you because of that fact. That's what I'm talking about when it comes to befriending the boys, there's going to be jealous girls."
"But that won't happen if I befriend you?" I say slowly and cautiously, not wanting to risk hurting her feelings.
"Nah, the worst I'd say that could happen would be that Liam doesn't like you or Lottie but that's not concern here." She laughs, a proper real laugh, her eyes shining with amusement. "I'm not saying don't befriend them cause damn girl you can do as you wish, but don't forget about girls, actually can I ask you something?"
