Chapter 1

CHAPTER 1

I walked through the industrial corridor, a blur of greys in my peripheral vision. I was excited to see some progress on Experiment Code Name: A1Y55. I recently infused mutant DNA into her lungs. If I hypothesized correct it should make it to where she can breathe the toxins. I finally reached her door when I heard a blood curdling scream.

"That can't be right," I say to myself. I should be the only one here today. It technically is after hours to work, but my curious mind never stops thinking. So who is it? I follow the scream, only to be met with my previous experiment's door, Experiment Code Name: K1R4. Is someone in there? It's impossible for K1R4 to be awake, she should still be in the Fusing Antibodies.

I open the door, only to be met with fire. "NO," I shout, this could ruin all of my progress with K1R4! I ran around desperately trying to find if there was anyone here after hours. I ran into so many experiment's doors only to be met with no one other than a container and an experiment. I continued to run in hope for someone, anyone. You'd think being in a highly advanced laboratory there'd be any sort of fire extinguisher system, but there's not. I continued to search till I came across an unmarked door, momentarily forgetting about six years worth of work, I opened it. My eyes widened, there were just rows and rows of vats filled with what looked like green Fusing Antibodies, but it looked more corrosive than the non harmful Fusing Antibodies.

"Mama," I yelled out in confusion, in one of the many vats was my adoptive mother. She had antelope horns and antelope ears. How did they find her, and more importantly what is she doing here?! I knew they took people who had more mutant qualities than others but I didn't know this. I quickly tried to get him out. Completely unaware to a fellow scientist behind me.

"Artemis," A voice called behind me in confusion. I turned around to see my boss, Cloria. "What are you doing in here, and what are you doing with Experiment Code Name: 4NN174," She asked.

"Her name is Annica, and she's my mother," I yelled at her, "She raised me," I said quieter. I looked up to see Cloria's face, she had a look of despair. "And what the heck is all of this?! What are you doing to them," I yelled again. She just looked at me, I suddenly remembered my work that's burning, and I think she saw that on my face. "Wait, Experiment Code Name: K1R4 is burning right now, where you the one to scream? Wait no that can't be, because then I would have seen you on the way here. Then who screamed," I asked, there were just too many questions in my head right now, it confused me. And, I hate being confused.

"Follow me, I'll explain everything on the way," Cloria suddenly said after a very long moment of silence.
