In other words, what if Lan Qiren refused to acknowledge Lan Lihua as a Lan after she began practicing demonic cultivation?

In Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian was openly cuddling closer to his husband, Lan Wangji, as they discussed something with Lan Qiren, Lan Lichen, and Lan Lihua. Though, the latter would prefer to be referred to as Jiang Lihua, as she was married to Jiang Cheng, courtesy name Wanyin.

Lan Qiren sighed at this hopeless pair of lovers while Lan Xichen gazed at them in amusement before looking at his younger sister. Jiang Lihua didn't even look at them, now looking straight ahead, her gaze cold and distant while her expression was one of indifference. Lan Xichen sighed sadly, knowing just how furious she must be, being in the same room as himself and their uncle, who had harshly denied her of her birthright to be in the GusuLan sect the instant she became a demonic immortal.

(It was also his fault, because he failed his duty as an older brother. He didn't protect Lihua from their uncle's words back then, and afterwards she had taken out her jade flute he gifted her when he made that promise and pointed at him with it as she tearfully accused him of breaking his promise.

"You promised you would protect me! You said that you would protect me from anything, even if I was strong enough to protect myself, because I'm your only sister and you couldn't bear the thought of me being hurt or sad! And yet, when uncle was threatening to have me whipped with the discipline whip if I didn't leave Cloud Recesses, and when he was berating me for something out of my control, you did nothing!" She had yelled outside of Cloud Recesses, with a constant stream of tears running down her face. Lan Xichen had wanted, more than anything, to wipe her tears away and comfort her. However, he wasn't sure if she would allow him to. She had looked completely and utterly heartbroken. Looking down at the jade flute, she had thrown it down at the floor, watching as it broke in half. "Consider our sibling bond to be like this broken flute. Wangji was the only one who hasn't left my side. He always protected me, even if I didn't need his protection. He is the only one I'll miss."

"Lihua!" Lan Xichen had called out after her as she turned around and fled in the direction of Lotus Pier. He looked and sounded both heartbroken and guilty, but she didn't turn back. Looking at the two pieces of the jade flute, he had noticed his hands trembling as he went to pick up the broken flute and that was the moment where he realized he was crying.)

The same uncle who also noticed her silent fury and felt a sting of guilt, well, many stings of guilt, especially when she abruptly stood up and left the room when she could no longer stand being in the same room as her uncle--no, Lan Qiren, and Lan Xichen.

Lan Wangji watched his twin sister leave, and after sharing a look with Wei Wuxian, both of them got up to follow her out. A part of Lan Wangji still hated the fact that his uncle had cast Lihua out of the sect without even waiting to hear her explanation. He wanted to hate his brother too, but he just couldn't.

"Lihua..." Lan Wangji called after his twin, who stopped walking but didn't turn around immediately. Inhaling deeply and exhaling softly, Jiang Lihua turned around and looked up at him.

"Tell A-Yuan that I'm sorry for not waiting for him to return back from his night hunt. I better get back to Lotus Pier." She said to him, smiling slightly. Her gaze went to Wei Wuxian and her smile grew just a little bit before it fell at the sight of Lan Qiren watching them. "If I stay any longer, I'll do something I regret."

She noted her eldest brother standing next to Lan Qiren and she didn't notice that she had started to scowl. Turning around, she made her way out of Cloud Recesses. The only one who knew what she really felt was her twin brother, Wangji. He knew that deep down inside, she was still hurt that their uncle had just cast her out of the sect without even hearing her explanation. However, she had been deeply hurt and felt a sense of betrayal when Lan Xichen, her own elder brother, didn't even try to change their uncle's mind.

Wei Wuxian shared a look with Lan Wangji and they both came to a silent agreement. Wei Wuxian would tag along with Jiang Lihua while Lan Wangji stayed behind at Cloud Recesses. Walking quickly to catch up to Lihua, Wei Wuxian called for her attention. Jiang Lihua waited for him, then the both of them left Cloud Recesses, with Wei Wuxian rambling about something that Jiang Lihua was only paying half attention to.
