"What the hell's wrong with you?" Trixie screeched while my transformation continued. I felt my nails grow into claws and the tribal markings from before had begun to emerge from my skin. My memory of the last time this had happened returned, the monster I became and the screams of the people I hurt. I knew that if Trixie didn't get away form me before the change was complete she'd be hurt first. I tried to speak but nothing came out but a hiss. It was given that by the look on her face she was absolutely terrified of what she was witnessing. I motioned for her to kneel down so I could talk to her, she did.
"Listen closely...I need my necklace...it keeps me in a normal state." She nodded and continued to listen. "Tell me where my necklace is," I ordered harshly. My human consciousness was fading as my mind reverted back to the primal, animal sense it once had fourteen years ago.
"Eli has it," she said as though she was in a trance, "he said he wanted to surprise you when we got back."
"Where is he now?"
"Back at the house," she regained her normal senses after I stopped controlling her mind. She blinked a few times and looked at me again.
"Get Eli now!" I ordered again. She did as I commanded and ran off to find Eli. That necklace had a pure essence in it that kept this monster at bay, and without it, it was like someone left the cage unlocked. The monster would break free and begin hurting people. If Eli were to get hurt...I don't know what I'd do I thought to myself. What if I did hurt him? Would he still accept me, or would he cast me aside like my own parents did? My horns started to grow and I knew the change was almost complete; it'd take a miracle to change me back to a normal human now.
The Dark Water I was tainted with when I was born made me into this thing, but there's nothing that I know of that can reverse the effects of the Dark Water's power. I could feel my irises changing from the electric blue they were into a cold black color. With the transformation completed my human consciousness slipped into the dark recesses of the monster's mind. I could feel everything it felt so I knew when a pair of familiar arms wrapped around me tightly. Eli, get away from me! You'll get killed! I thought. The monster tried to get him off but he didn't let go. Before I knew it, my human senses had returned and I could control my body again. I felt something on my neck and looked down. My necklace. A smile formed at my lips and I looked at Eli. His eyes were wide in shock and he looked about ready to run. I took a step closer to him but he just backed away in fear. I lifted my hands and saw that I still had my claws. I felt the top of my head cut my hand on the tips of my two horns. I was back to my human self only on the outside I was still the monster.
"Eli..."I muttered loud enough for only him to hear, "I'm sorry you had to see me like this." He didn't say anything. I turned to walk away but made one last glance at him, "So now you know I'm nothing but a monster." I started walking away when I heard footsteps come up behind me. I didn't stop. I broke out into a sprint and headed for the caverns. I didn't want to deal with seeing him look so scared, or any of the others so I decided to hide in the caverns. I whistled loudly and hoped that Spark would come find me. I didn't want to abandon him, and he would keep me company. The footsteps echoed in my ears again as I ran. There was no point if he was just gonna chase me, so I stopped and faced him.
