Once again, she is right

Once again, she is right.

As far as she can tell, what lies past the seemingly magical white door is absolutely nothing.

Naia pulls back, not wanting to get sucked in, just in case it's a black hole, which it technically is.

Instead, she steps back, the air drying around her. She rounds the door again, just to make sure nothing else has changed. Sure enough, the ground is solid on the other side, the same broken platform she's been standing on this entire time.

Naia comes to a stop in front of the ajar door once more, brushing the loose strands of hair from her eyes to make sure she isn't missing anything.

The space remains blank.

Still, an idea forms in her head, quickly taking the place of the scene of the body she'd seen earlier. At first, she's hesitant to go through with it, thinking that- if she isn't already- she might fall to her death in the endless hole that seems to be the destination.

Then, another thought.

Why is this door here anyway?

The only reasonable explanation that comes to her is that she's supposed to go through it. that it only appeared to guide her. She doesn't remember anything and has no idea what her purpose here is, so who is she to judge what comes next? If anything, maybe she should be thanking the universe for sending her a guide as obvious as a giant white door.

Soon, her feet are stepping, right after left and over again, the blackness welcoming her like a familiar friend. As she nears the other side, her fingers automatically find the frame, holding it tight until her knuckles are white, grasping for dear life. As hard as she tries, she can't seem to dispel the fear coursing through at the moment, but nevertheless, does not give in.

She lifts a leg, slowly, and steps across.

Solid.

Naia jerks back as if she'd just stepped on lava rocks, staring at the ground ahead. It's still pitch black, as dark as dark gets, yet she felt it as solid as if there was something there.

She tries again.

Solid.

Naia swallows her heart back to its normal place, willing it to stop beating as hard as it has been. Then, she moves again, stepping across the boundary, not turning to look back. Step after step, she moves further into the empty darkness, keeping her eyes trained on the floor she moves across.

A sudden thud sounds behind her, snapping her out of the intense concentration she was just in. Where she expects to see the door, she sees... nothing.

The door seems to have disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared earlier, leaving her stranded in the pure darkness. Without the presence of the rectangle of light it provided her moments ago, she is thrown into the darkness, and instantly a chill rains on her. She spins again, more afraid than before, feeling blind as she is unable to adjust to the lack of light.
