Thoughts

  |  Running through the dark of the winter forest, I found myself soon lost and waiting for the next sign. I stopped to catch my breath, the sun was now rising meaning the second day had awoken. I could not believe the things that were happening. I always thought that the apocalypse was just something my dad said was coming or the movies thought was a good idea. I never thought it would become reality.  |  Before these events, I always thought my dad was crazy, always had crazy ideas and after no one believed these ideas, he turned. He started pulling out his hair and making a bunch of videos documenting his thoughts; he left his family, me and mom, just got up and left one day.  |  I sat in the fetal position, most likely for warmth or comfort, and thought about all he had said, and about the day. The day he left us. The day I can't forget. The only thing that scares me.

After my dad's thoughts were denied he stayed up in his room all day. One day I told my mom that we had to go; get as far away from him as we could. We bought our tickets, but he found out about what we were trying to do. Obviously, he was unhappy with this and tried to talk us out of it. Just before we left, my dad walked up to me and looked down with his dead and sad eyes, the same ones he used to look at me with when I got a test wrong or tried to argue the right answer with him. He bent down and wrapped me in a tight hug, tight enough that it could have pushed my insides out if it hadn't been for the layer of skin and bones caging them. He got down close to my ear and whispered a sentence that will live within me for the rest of my life, floating around in the mess of a head I have; pushing at the sides of the walls. Waiting. "I understand, but no matter how far you run, how hard you try to hide, I will always be right, Have fun on your trip boy because soon it will all be over. Soon, Very, very soon, my boy. Very, very soon." He threw his arm back and then jabbed me with a needle; he walked away laughing and muttering words to himself. I pushed my hand up rubbing the back of my neck, where he had struck me.  |  I was trembling both from the cold and the tears now falling from my eyes. I glanced up, the sun was almost at my head now. I stood and look around making sure nothing was there. Right as I started to take off again I felt a prick at the back of my shoulder blade, then I collapsed. I heard footsteps approaching, and then it all went dark.
