"Clara it's time, wake up!" Claras mother yells from the kitchen. I grown as my mother calls for me while my alarm clock still sounds, I've never been good with getting up on time. The end of my last ever high school summer is coming although I have spent most of it working at the coffee shop. I head down stairs and find my mom cooking some pancakes... my favorite. For the past 5 years it has just been her and I after my dad left to be with his new young girlfriend who is closer to my age than his.

"hey honey how did you sleep?"

"Good, what are your plans for today?"

" I might do some yard work and than stay in and relax, are you exited for your last day at the coffee shop"

"Yes!" "I am one step closer of getting out of here"

"Oh Clara, you don't have that much time left, soon you will be off to New York working on writing and meeting all types of new people." I decided to move to New York very late into my senior year. While everyone I knew had been getting ready to move into college I was procrastinating by writing stupid stories that never went anywhere. I finally decided that the only way I could figure out what I wanted in life, was to get out of this small Texas town with too many memories and experience the big city.

"I know mom but, what if writing never works and I end up not getting anywhere?"

"Honey, you have such a strong passion for writing that I know you will work it all out, I have so much faith in you!"

"Thanks mom" I glance at the clock and it says "8:45" and I realize that I might be late "sorry mom I have to go but thank you for breakfast, I love you"

As I head to the coffee shop I reminder how different my life used to be, and think of all the little memories I shared with him. I realize what I am doing, and quickly snap out of it and continue on my way to work.

I get to work and it's just an average day like always, I look over at the one bench we used to sit at and get a little nostalgia but am quickly interrupted by my best friend Kate.

"Hey Clara!!!" "We have one week left before we are out in the big apple!!" kate has been counting down the days till we move into out new place. "I know girl, it can't go by fast enough."

Me and Kate talk about moving details as I make her coffee, "thanks for the coffee Clara, I'll see you soon!!"

My shift ends and I grab my laptop and sit down at one of the coffee tables, I like working the earlier shifts so I am able to have time to write before we close. I sit down and open my laptop to a blank word document, which has been this way for weeks. I sit and stare until 4 o'clock rolls around and the coffee shop begins to close, I realize that this is my last time that I will ever feel the way I do right now, in this place, in this moment.

I drive home and walk in to see mom sitting on the couch watching an Adam Sandler movie, I set my bag down and grab a protein bar from the pantry and throw myself next to her on the couch.

"Hey honey, how was your day? Did you get any writing done?"

"My day was good, nothing too exiting, still working on my writing, its been pretty hard recently"

"I know Clara, don't beat yourself up over it,  you have so much time."

We finish the movie, say goodnight, and I head up to go take a shower. when I get into my bathroom I look at myself in the mirror and see the same dark brown eyes, the same dark hair, and the same somewhat curvy body as always. I have never been one of those girls to be overly confident.

I finish my shower and remeber the box of letters in the top of my closet that I haven't gotten down in awhile. I grab my desk chair and climb on it to retrieve the box. As I begin to read the letters I drift back to what it felt like to talk to him and how excited I would get to receive a letter that had the name "Jake" on it.

Remembering what it felt like when I would get to see him after a long time made me scared. what if I never had that feeling with someone else? I always look at others and wonder how they were so lucky to find their person and actually make it work. I decide to put the letters up before I got too deep and head to sleep, tomorrow begins the first day of packing for my new future.
