Barrier Anxiety tells the story of ordinary people and their extraordinary pets. Max Robinson is in his 20s, out of college, broke, working in a tech support job, spending his first Valentine's Day alone since becoming an adult, and wondering what the point of it all is. Honey is a mixed-breed dog. More on that later. It's a long story, but to sum up: she has within her the ability to change the world. There's also some perfectly ordinary executive assistant, secretary, banker, and so on, whose lives are far more interesting because they end up in the company of astounding cats, snakes, birds, and so on. There is science fiction of the evolutionary biology kind. There is adventure in the vein of comic books and superhero team movies. There are video games that they play together in their time off. There are thousands of mistakes made and, possibly, dozens of lessons learned. Being completely typical people, there are characters who are differently-abled, many different races, neuroatypical, transgendered, and various sexualities, because this is a world where there is no "default" combo of a protagonist. But, to reiterate: These are normal people who end up in phenomenal situations because of their exceptional pets.
