Nonetheless, he persevered in pursuing his dream of becoming an astronaut. Vincent went to great lengths to achieve his dream, even sacrificing his identity in order to adopt another's, but gave everything up for the guy whose identity he had borrowed. However, was it worthwhile, and who was he now without his original identity? Will Vincent uncover his true self or sacrifice everything for others? The "accident" claimed more than just his legs; it took away his life. Struggling to survive, Eugene yearns to try another attempt-this time succeeding at death. Yet, the unsuspected presence of his borrowed-ladder is enough to refrain from trying anything under his watchful gaze. Will Eugene succeed at his misguided dream, or will he discover a new sense of life within his existence? They always miscalculated her. It was her unfortunate genetics. Was it not? With the dream of going into space like the rest of her co-workers, Irene gazed at the rocket launches with starry eyes as well. However, inside her faulty heart, she knew she would never be able to achieve this dream because of the organ. Will Irene run to her dream rocket launch, or will she be left behind in its dust cloud? Vincent had his year in space, he achieved his goal of a lifetime, what was supposed to be impossible. He finally accomplished what he had always dreamed, so why did he find himself missing Earth so much? Why was he missing Eugene so much? While on his mission, Vincent discovers some buried feelings for his friend and can't wait to see him again when he gets back. Only, once he does return, he doesn't find what he expected.

In "the not-too-distant future", eugenics is common. A genetic registry database uses biometrics to classify those so created as "valids" while those conceived by traditional means and more susceptible to genetic disorders are known as "in-valids".Genetic discrimination is illegal, but in practice genotype profiling is used to identify valids to qualify for professional employment while in-valids are relegated to menial jobs.
