"I believe that at this moment, we have been held back from higher levels of thought by our ego- this sense of self that limits our abilities... this begs the question- where could we go (physically and in terms of knowledge) if we were not limited by our own understanding?" A short experimental essay on the constraints set up by the existence of the human ego. (Posted here mainly because I need an easy link for friends and family)

Everyone knows the story of Icarus. The story of how his wings melted as a cause of his ego. How he flew too close to the sun and he was warned not to. How he fell a torturous fall from shining light to utter darkness. But what they don't know is that his wings melted from the heat of his own joy, not his ego. What they don't know is that he was also warned not to fly too close to the sea below. What they don't know is that the fall was the most invigorating part. What they forget is that the wax and feathers and frames of his wings fell to the sea with him. The story emerges from the sea in new forms. Abusive fathers embody Minos. The wax is no longer wax but a family. The story of Icarus is reborn from the depths of the Underworld. But can something be reborn if it never died? "Never regret thy fall, O Icarus of the fearless flight For the greatest tragedy of them all Is to never feel the burning light." ~Oscar Wilde
